This morning, I installed a bunch of updates that microsoft said were needed. Big mistake. Almost as soon as i restarted from the install, I started having issues with my laptop freezing on me. I thought it was just being finicky, but it kwept doing it even after having been shut down for 3 and a half hours while I was working. Then I get home, it freezes within minutes of me booting up and I had to hold the power button down to shut it downb, and when I restarted, it got to the 'Welcome' screen after I put in my password, and it froze... so I held down the power button again, this time booted up in safe mode, and I did a system restore to before the updates were installed.

And what do you know? It's working just fine now! God damn windows updates were fucking with it... I think the problem with the updates is that they don't take into account that hey, people install software sometimes. And sometimes their updates interact badly with the software and fuck things up.

I was terrified that, with money tight between buying gifts and working less hours (3 1/2 hours a day this week, instead of my usual 7 hours a day) and missing so many days last month (sick, injured, and then Thanksgiving) so that my paycheck was tiny, I would also be a hundred bucks or more out of pocket and be without my laptop to boot...

Thankfully, all seems to be okay now, and all I lost was about half a page of fic for tonight's 24 gifts, but I think I can rewrite it quickly and it'll be just as good/better... just... gah...
