Title: Brilliant Idiots (AKA: Ryan Visits Global Dynamics)
Author: Mara
Fandoms: The OC/Eureka Crossover
Rating: PG
Warnings: None really, except that it's a crossover. 1 'bad' (but not really BAD...) swear word is said once... lol
Summary: Stark takes Ryan on a tour of Global. Sheriff Carter makes an appearance and so does sticky purple goo... lol
Notes: A crossover, heavy on the Eureka, since Ryan is the only The OC character who appears (Trey gets mentioned in this part... and Luke, Caleb, and other Early Season 1 Newport Jerks are vaguely mentioned...)... lol... Third in a series, takes place after Welcome To Eureka and Of Talking Houses And Sheriffs. No Zoe this part, but I have a direct follow up to this one that features Zoe, Vincent, and possibly Henry... lol

Brilliant Idiots (AKA: Ryan Visits Global Dynamics)

Sure, there were some interesting things to look at in the labs of Global Dynamics, but Ryan was still bored after about 5 minutes because Stark wouldn't let him linger to look at anything. Nathan Stark was way too cocky and full of himself for Ryan's taste, reminding him of a couple of the rich people he'd met during his brief time in Newport, and he wanted to escape the man's presence for even a couple minutes, long enough to get over his urge to punch the guy.

"Great news," Stark said. "One of the experiments is showing some results that you might find interesting."

"Great," Ryan echoed, following him down the hall. They walked into the observation room and Ryan was immediately fascinated by the pulsing purple bubble. "What is that?" he asked.

"It's... well... It's an experiment," Stark said.

"Which means he has no idea," came another voice, and Ryan turned jsut enough to see and recognize Sherriff Jack Carter.

"Hi, Sheriff Carter," Ryan said.

"You've already met?" Stark said, clearly annoyed.

"Ryan's friends with Zoe," Jack replied.

"Dr. Stark? We could use your assistance," came a muffled voice over the intercomm. "No need for a clean suit."

"If you'll excuse me," Stark said, straightening his jacket. "Watch and learn, Ryan, maybe you'll be working in these labs someday relatively soon.

Ryan nodded, then rolled his eyes as soon as Stark had turned away. "Ass," he muttered.

"That's one way to put it," Jack said as he walked over to look through the observation windows. "What is that thing?" he asked himself.

"It can't be what it looks like," Ryan replied.

"What's it look like?"

"When my brother used to pour paint into a water balloon," Ryan said. "It jiggled just like that."

"I doubt they're experimenting with paint in giant bubbles," Jack said. "So, how the tour going?"

"Fine."

"Bored out of your skull?"

"A 5 second glance is not enough to satisfy anyone's curiosity, especially when the subjects involved advanced mathematics and laser technology as applied to space exploration," Ryan said.

"You a fan of that?" Jack asked.

"Anywhere's better than earth nowadays," Ryan replied, leaning closer to the glass. "That really does not look good," he said.

Jack reached over and tapped the intercomm. "Stark, both me and the kid think that's looking really bad..."

"You're not a scientist and Ryan is still learning," Stark replied condescendingly. "It's fi..." Stark was cut off as suddenly all three bubbles exploded and purple goo splattered across the windows.

"Stark?" Jack said into the intercomm.

"We're fine," came Stark's reply, which sounded like it came through gritted teeth. "Turn on the fire supression system," he added.

As sprayers began to clear the goo from the glass, it was revealed that everything was covered in it, both equipment and people. Stark was spitting the purple goo, which was getting stickier as it got wet, out of his mouth and trying to wipe it off his face. He turned to take a step towards the scientists, but slipped and fall on his ass into a big puddle of the goo.

"Still wishing you'd gotten to spend more time with the math and lasers?" Jack asked, watching as Stark tried to get up again only to fall.

"No, I'm quite glad I was here," Ryan replied, nodding as he tried to hide his smile.

"I think you were right."

"About?"

"Paint in a water balloon."

"If only I could tell Trey that billion dollar labs are stealing his old vandalism tricks," Ryan quipped with a grin.

That was adorable. Very funny. I like how Ryan and Carter have the same sense of humor and Stark is a total tight-ass. Can't wait for the next one.

Been pretty busy with work and for the past few days I also had a to babysit a very annoying little nephew of mine ;) Now all of that has run its way and I can start having some good times again, like reading fanfic for example *laughs*

Back to the topic at hand: I loved this fic because your humor of Ryan fits the Eureka world and especially Jack Carter amazingly well. Its good to see a little plot development as Ryan is now actively participating in his guardian's life and even gets a tour of GD. I'm really looking forward to more Ryan/Zoe time because the messes they could get into ... ah the possibilities :D

The picture of Trey suing from his prison cell, on grounds of patent infringement; is just too hilarious for words!:)Good chapter!

I just found this series after loving "Ryan's job offer" I'm so happy there was more! Heheh...Stark being covered by purple goo, always good.

Super awesome series, I love the Zoe and Ryan interaction, even if they wasn't any in this one. Thanks so much for sharing!
