Chapter Twelve
Later, Sandy and Kirsten talked quietly to Dr. Harrison while Seth and Summer sat with Ryan in the recreation room, telling him about how lame a TV movie from the night before had been.
"Is this really doing any good?" Sandy asked. "Because he seems worse."
"He's seeing her more," Dr. Harrison admitted. "And his moods are off because of it. But, at the same time, he's not panicking, and as of last night he still wanted to stay."
"He's a kid and he's..." Kirsten began. "He's sick. He might not know what's best."
"He's sure, and I think he's rational enough to make this decision," Dr. Harrison said. "I know you both want what's best for Ryan, but I don't think taking him home now, when he wants to stay, is what's best."
"He said he's not holding down any food?" Sandy pressed.

"I swear, this woman made Delia look like a nun!" Summer said.
Ryan chuckled. "Now that's scary," he said.
"This Delia chick can't be that bad," Seth said.
"Her skirts are shorter than your little friends," Ryan replied, an edge to his voice.
"Becky didn't mean to..." Seth began.
"What were you thinking bringing her?" Ryan pressed. "You knew Summer was going to be there, you knew it would upset her, and you still brought that girl?"
"I just..."
"And what happened to trying to win Summer back?"
"She kinda made it clear that it wasn't happening," Seth protested.
"So in two days you realized that and moved on?" Ryan asked.
"Hey, I didn't come to get questioned," Seth said.
"No, you came because Dr. Harrison thought it would help for me to tell all of you things that I've held in. And right now, I'm telling you that you are a selfish little jerk a lot of the time, Seth."
"I don't have to sit here," Seth said as he got up and walked away.
"That went well," Ryan said, slumping down in his chair.
"Cohen's a moron," Summer replied, reaching over to grasp his hand. She smiled when he turned his hand over and she slid her fingers between his to hold on tight. "Anything you've been holding back from me?" she asked.
Ryan shrugged. "No, you probably know more than Sandy and Kirsten, because you ask for all the little details about stuff. And how could I have a reason to be mad at you? You're always you, maybe a little nicer and sweeter you than you were in the past..."
Summer laughed slightly. "Yeah, well, loosing one friend and almost loosing another changes you," she said. After a pause, she squeezed his hand. "There's something I want you to know."
"What?" Ryan asked.
"You know how you told me about the watch and it's engraving?"
"Yeah."
"I'm the one who said it, Chino," Summer said. "You were sitting there, and... and I thought you were dying, and I told you... I told you that you're weren't allowed to die, I wouldn't let you, because we needed you and we loved you."
"You said it," Ryan said, considering the information.
"I didn't know you even heard me."
"All I heard was the last part," Ryan admitted. "I guess I owe you my life more than I thought."
"Keep being my friend and you can consider the debt repaid," Summer said with a smile. "You know I love you, Chino."
"I love you, too, Summer," Ryan said, returning the smile. "And trust me, I don't want to lose you, I need my best friend. That's... that's the one thing I can tell you that I haven't. I'm scared to death you're gonna get tired of... of everything."
"Never," Summer promised, leaning forward to cup his cheek in her hand. "None of my other friends are half as cute and fun," she added in a teasing voice. She glanced up as Kirsten, Sandy, and Dr. Harrison came over, and pulled back.
"Dr. Harrison says you have group now, so... so we're going to go," Sandy said, clearly not liking it. "If you... if you need us..."
"I know," Ryan said, getting up to hug first Sandy then Kirsten. "I'll call."
"You know we love you, right?" Kirsten asked.
"I know," Ryan replied, kissing her cheek.
"I'll come see you in a few days, okay, Chino?" Summer said hugging him then tugging his head down to kiss his forehead. "Just remember, you're not allowed to leave us, I won't let you."
Ryan nodded. "Yeah," he agreed. "And I long since learned not to get on your bad side."
Summer nodded and turned to leave with the Cohens, glancing back as they reached the doorway, and catching Ryan's eye as he headed towards group. She lifted a hand in a wave and offered him a smile, both of which he returned.

Three days later, Ryan was feeling more stable and the hallucinations had almost stopped, so Dr. Harrison felt it was safe to take a few days off to visit his son and new grandchild in San Fransisco for New Year's Eve. He had barely left when his temporary replacement, Dr. Keller, welcomed a new inpatient who had just arrived.
"You've been put in the group that's just about to start their group session, so we'll go join them," Dr. Keller explained after the patients family had finished signing him in and they had left.
"Good, I hope we get along, it just makes it all so much more... pleasant."
Dr. Keller smiled as he led the way into the room where the group was gathered and waiting. "Everyone please welcome a new resident," he said, smiling around the circle though he frowned at Ryan, who was sketching instead of looking. "Please say hello to Oliver."
Ryan's head shot up and he felt his hands start to shake as he saw the new patient. "No," he said under his breath.
"Hi everyone," Oliver Trask said as he looked around. When his gaze landed on Ryan, he couldn't help a smirk. "Well, look's like I've already got a friend here," he said.

Date: 2006-10-31 09:06 pm (UTC)Don't worry, there will still be angst for Ryan... and major embarassment (let's just say there's an intimate moment between he and Summer, and... well... EVERYONE walks in one it... lol)... I jsut mean things will start looking up overall...
And no, I haven't seen 4x01, even though I'm DYING to see it... youtube doesn't work for me, and my computer is such junk I don't wanna download the special player thing another places requires... so I gotta wait until Thursday... but god I hope someone, somewhere, puts up clips of the Ryan/Summer scene that I've seen promo pics of and that there's a brief glimpse of in the 4 minute commercial... lol... I totally wanna make another Ryan/Summer fanvid (I've made a couple little fun ones in the past... one was to 'Ska8er Boi' by Avril lavigne where Marissa was an idiot and passed up on Ryan, but Summer snatched him up, and the other is to 'She's So High' by Tal Bachman... lol... but I wanna make another one... lol... and there aren't enough Ryan/Summer scenes out there for my taste! And sorry... rant over... lol)
