sad news today...
Jul. 25th, 2004 03:18 pmMy Great-Aunt Madeline (Mama's Mom's sister) called earlier. Her brother, my Great-Uncle Joe, died. I only met Uncle Joe once, years ago (Back when we lived in Texas so I was under 11) but he was a really great guy. Unfortunately my mom wasn't home, and she wants to call Aunt Madeline back instead of waiting for her to call us back like she said she would, but mom can't find Aunt Madeline's phone number anywhere. The saddest part is that he died alone. His son is dead, and he and his daughter aren't that close apparently. And his sister Anne? When Aunt Madeline called Anne about his death, Anne jsut repleid with 'Oh I'm so sorry," like it was a stranger who died instea dof her BROTHER! I mena I said the same thing, but first of all i only met Uncle Joe once, and 2nd it didn't register at first when Aunt Madeline said her brother died that she was talking about Uncle Joe.
Mama is practically inconsolable, she loved Uncle Joe, and now she's thinking about hwo horrible it'll be when Aunt Madeline dies because they are really close. Aunt Madeline used to pick Mama up from school sometimes, and she'd drive her convertible with her scarf tied over her hair like the 50's and 60's movie stars would, she was really glamourous. Mama even said when Aunt Madline died she'd have to take a day off work because there'd be no way she could work.
I may post again this evening or tomorrow with less sad/depressing stuff. I'm just not in the mood right now.
Later.
