Ryan had visions.
Well, technically dreams, but they tended to come true unless he worked very hard to change things.
He dreamed of his mother kicking him out in fav or of AJ, and tried to fix it by running off with Trey only to get arrested and have it happen anyway.
He dreamed of Marissa's overdose in Tijuana, and despite his best efforts all it did was allow him to find the exact alleyway in time to get her help.
He dreamed of the hotel room. Of Oliver with the gun. Of being shot in the head.
He didn't know how to stop it, so he did the only thing he could think of: he ran.
He didn't have much money, a few hundred saved up from his few weeks of working at the Crab Shack the previous summer, but it was enough to get him on a bus out of California. From there, he hitchhiked, finally ending up in a truck somewhere in Texas.
He had dreamed of this, too. Getting into a truck with a dark haired, clean shaven, man who'd drive him into the middle of nowhere, then pull over and force him out of the truck. Who'd tell him to run, then hunt him down and kill him.
But he'd dreamed of something else, and when he saw the man at the truck stop back on the outskirts of Austin, he had chosen to let the first part happen so the second would as well.
As he ran through the desert, he found a road just as a truck approached, and he stumbled in front of it. The truck slammed to a stop and a blonde woman got out, her short hair swinging as she angrily headed his way. "Are you drunk or just stupid?!" she demanded.
"He's gonna kill me," Ryan replied, glancing over his shoulder as the man appeared of a rise, rifle raised, and stopped at the sight of the woman and her truck, then turned and fled.
"Come on," the woman said, helping him off the ground. "Get in the truck."
Ryan did so, his eyes watching the hill the man had disappeared behind as the woman started the truck again. As they passed a sign saying 'Welcome To Midnight, TX', he let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. He had a feeling he'd be safe here, at least for now.

This is indeed a loose crossover with the unfortunately cancelled NBC show Midnight, Texas. The blonde at the end was Olivia Charity, who I fucking adore because she is badass assassin and we finally got to see her opening up a bit more this last season, and I had been hoping to see her and her vampire husband, Lem, be foster/adoptive parents in the future because she would rock it with a kid who had been abused and needed to feel safe. Dawn and/or Frank show up in Midnight and try to take Ryan? They would be fucking dead in a heartbeat.
