Very late getting this out because just as I went to post it, I got a call from work about a problem I needed to go in to handle. Took me a while to deal with it. Ugh.
The 2nd gift this year is part of my Ryan Sloan!Verse, where Ryan had leukemia as a child and found out when he was 12 that biologically he's the son of Dr. Mark Sloan from Grey's Anatomy. This one takes place once Ryan is an adult, in college (med school actually, but it doesn't come up in this... lol) and comes home for Christmas. It only features Ryan talking to Callie Torres, and I think y'all may be a bit surprised by it. But I love it.
"Hey! Merry Christmas!" Callie said when she saw Ryan sitting in the staff lounge at the hospital, his nose in a book per usual. "How's Philadelphia been treating you?"
"Not bad," Ryan said, giving his aunt a hug. "Dad had a surgery that ran long, so I took a cab from the airport," he added, anticipating her next question. "But hey, now... I get to visit with my favorite aunt."
Callie raised an eyebrow then went and closed the door before returning to sit on the coffee table in front of his seat on the couch. "What's going on? Why are you sucking up?"
Ryan sighed. "That obvious?"
"Uh... yeah?"
"I need some advice."
"Girl trouble? Just please tell me you aren't hooking up with all the girls and getting STDs?"
"No, I'm not... no. Nothing like that."
"Then what's up?"
"I'm seeing someone. They're really... great... and gorgeous, and... I really like them..."
"Ok..."
"And his name is Connor," Ryan concluded in a rush.
Callie was quiet for a moment, only the way she raised an eyebrow showing that she heard him. "Connor?"
"Yeah."
"I'm glad you figured it out earlier than I did. A lot easier to know when you're younger than after a marriage that shouldn't have happened."
"I don't even know for sure what exactly I figured out," Ryan admitted. "I like him. And I think he likes me. And I... I don't know if I was ever really physically attracted to girls... I tried, because Dad... but I just..."
"You like boys."
"I like this boy," Ryan acknowledged. "He can be a sarcastic asshole, but... he's smart, and he's funny, and he can be really nice when he wants to be."
"Sounds amazing."
"He saw my scars," Ryan said, gesturing vaguely at his hip and side. "And instead of mocking, he asked, and after I told him about the cancer, and the fake hip... he kissed me and said 'scars are hot'. Last time anyone saw them they mocked me for months about them, calling me a freak, and he... he thinks they're hot."
"He thinks you're hot," Callie corrected. "In other words, he likes you, too."
"He's... completely confident in himself, and his... his sexuality. Everyone knows he's gay, he's been out since he was twelve. And I... I'm out at school. People know, and I'm fine with that. I know there's nothing wrong with being gay or bi, or whatever I am. But I..."
"What?"
"Dad."
"What about him?" Callie said.
"What if he... what if..."
"You can't think he'll have a problem with this," Callie said. "I mean, you're talking to his best friend who's gay?"
"There's a difference between his gorgeous friend and former hook up dating then marrying another gorgeous woman, and his son dating a guy," Ryan said. "Or are you seriously gonna try to convince me that he's never made 'hot lesbian sex' comments to you?"
"We watched Lesbian porn together a couple times," Callie admitted. "But still. You are... you're everything to him. You are his world. He would have given up Lexie if you hadn't liked her. He would have given up everything for you. There is no possibility of him not loving you just because of who you love."
Ryan nodded. "I guess."
"No guess, just fact," Callie told him, pulling him closer so she could place a kiss on the top of his head. "Mark loves you. Nothing could ever change that." She hesitated. "Besides... he kinda suspected."
"What?"
"Ryan, you never dated in high school. You hung out with groups, but no solo dates."
"Yeah, but... I went to prom with dates!"
"And were home before curfew, suit still looking neat, no lipstick on your collar or smeared near your mouth, just a delicate little perfect lip print on your cheek," Callie listed. "Every school dance. And since most of your proms fell either just before or just after a hip surgery, because that's your kind of luck, dancing wasn't very likely, so we expected some heaving making out. But... and then the whole train crash your senior year? You had your hand stuffed between a girl's thighs..."
"Clamping down on her femoral artery so she didn't bleed out!"
"...for hours and never once said anything inappropriate or 'accidentally' touched her inappropriately, " Callie said, ignoring his interruption. "I'm not sure some of our doctors here could have been that professional with a colleague."
Ryan sighed, but looked up at her. "Dad's suspected for that long? He never said anything..."
"He asked me what I thought. I agreed you might not be interested in girls, but I told him it was a personal thing, that however you felt about sex and gender, you'd tell him when you were ready. I also asked him point blank if there'd be a problem if you were gay, and he was pissed that I would even consider the possibility of him loving you less."
"What'd you say?"
"That if you are gay, you might be scared of telling him, and he should know it has nothing to do with him, it's just a sad part of the world we live in that so many people do reject and beat down people for their sexuality, that it's always a fear that parents won't accept."
"Ma would have tried to get me to hook up with some old rich guy so I could give her money for her drugs and booze," Ryan said. "And if I didn't, she would have... I wouldn't have been loved no matter what."
"Mark is not your mother," Callie said. "I know that there is nothing in the world that could make him love you less. And I also know that I thought that about my parents until I came out, and my Dad wanted me to talk to a priest to pray away the gay. I reminded Mark that you were around when that went down, you saw how much it hurt me, so it made sense you might be scared of the same thing happening with you and him."
"Thanks, Callie," Ryan told her with a shaky smile.
"Anytime," Callie replied. "So, happier note... you got a picture of your boy? I wanna see how biased your 'he's gorgeous' is."
Ryan laughed and pulled up a picture on his phone before turning it around. "Well?"
"Take it from your technically Bi but mostly Lesbian leaning aunt... You have very good taste... if he was straight I might consider swinging back to that team for that face."
Ryan laughed again. "That's not at all creepy," he said. "Equally creepy is... you know that thing of people choosing partners who are like their parents?"
"Please tell me he's not like your mother or I will have to hunt him down..."
"No! No. Connor kinda reminds me of Dad some. He can be such an asshole sometimes, even to his friends. But when it comes down to it he'd do just about anything for them. And he... I have always felt so... self conscious about the scars. And he just... he knew just what to say to make me feel okay about them. To make me stop feeling like they made me hideous."
"Sounds like a keeper."
"I think so."

Had this one on my mind for a while. I was initially thinking of having Ryan someday bump into Summer Roberts and she remembers him from his time in Newport (when the Cohens almost adopted him) and they start dating (and it comes out that she and Seth married right out of high school but divorced after he cheated on her). Then I thought about how interesting it would be to have Ryan be gay/bi in this 'verse.
Yes, I will at some point write Mark's reaction to Ryan coming out to him.
