24 Gifts Of 2017 - Gift #1 - Judgement

It's that time of the year again! Everyday from December 1st to December 24th there will be a gift here. These gifts could be fanfic, fanart, a fanmix, just about anything. They are almost always 'The OC' related and Ryan Atwood centric (Although he sometimes has a radically different life). Usually I friendslock the gifts until the 24th, but since not everyone from LJ has friended me on here, I'm leaving them unlocked this year.
This first gift is from my fairly new 'Lay Bare Your Heart' Verse, where Ryan is a single dad to his daughter Lucy, and he happens to be bisexual. This little gift takes place when Ryan is in his early 20'a (meaning Lucy is about 5 or 6), and deals with Sandy not approving of his choice of date to a party, though only Ryan and Summer are actually in the fic. As a reminder, Ryan and Summer are, and will only be, friends in this 'verse. Best friends, but just friends.
"Do you like him?"
Ryan glanced over to his couch, where Summer was still curled up in one corner, nursing her mug of hot chocolate. "Sum..."
"Serious question, Chino. Not do you wanna get him in bed, not do you want a fling, not do you want to casually date him and make out. Do you like him?"
Ryan sighed and sat down on the other end of the couch. "Yeah, I do."
"Then don't let what anyone says stop you for going for what you want," Summer said firmly. "I saw the way he was looking at you. And the look on his face when Sandy went off the rails about him, and the look on his face when you asked him to leave. He likes you, too. Don't let Sandy and his... whatever the hell his problem is, stop you from being happy with someone who seems like a really nice guy."
"But if what Sandy was saying is true..."
"So he has a sordid past. Who doesn't? I mean come on, I briefly married Seth Cohen," she reminded him, her tone and face completely serious. "But that doesn't make me someone to be avoided, right?"
Ryan laughed. "Good point," he agreed. "Although, it has made me question your judgement on occasion," he added, laughing again when she kicked his thigh.
"Jerk."
"What did you think of him?"
"You mean besides 'why are all the hot ones gay?'" Summer asked.
"I'll be sure to tell... who are you dating nowadays?"
"You haven't met him yet and keep it up and you won't ever," Summer said.
"Seriously, what did you think?"
"He seems nice, smart, really into you... I mean he was doing the whole smiling and nodding thing while Seth rambled, the one where his mouth said interesting, but his eyes said 'please kill me now, I beg of you, just put me out of my misery'."
"So... you like him?"
"I like him. He gets the Summer Roberts seal of approval to date my best friend," Summer said, nudging him with her foot.
"At least someone approves."
"Sandy's approval or lack there of should not be the deciding factor," Summer said firmly. "Sandy's not the one who'll be dating him."
Ryan nodded, knowing she was right. "Didn't you used to be kind of a dumb best friend type a couple years back?"
"Yeah, then I made friends with this new guy from Chino and realized that just like he can be hot and tough and smart? I can be pretty, into fashion, and smart."
"Glad to have helped," Ryan said. "Thanks, Sum. I don't know what I would do without you."
"Um... be miserable and boyfriend-less?"
"Probably."
"So? You gonna call him?"
"Yeah, I'll call him."
"I volunteer my babysitting services for any dates or overnights."
"Just because your less judgemental about it doesn't make that any less of a 'Ryan is such a slut' comment," Ryan pointed out.
"You aren't a slut. You have, now at least, a healthy mindset when it comes to sex. There is nothing wrong with a little fun, but you're safe about it, both in the physical and the emotional. I just think maybe it's time you take a little bit of an emotional risk, if you think this is 'the guy'."
"Did you get that from a pysch text book?"
"Maybe," Summer admitted as Ryan laughed.
The End
I delibrately left it blank about who the guy is, but it is a crossover. I'd love to hear some guesses before I reveal it. Here's the clues (I'll give more clues upon request):
#1 - Canonically Gay on the show he is on, which is still (as of December 2017) airing.
#2 - Has been involved in, and mostly gotten away with, multiple serious crimes.
#3 - Ironically has a canon boyfriend with the same first name as someone Ryan once punched.
I just couldn't resist when the thought crossed my mind... lol

Date: 2017-12-03 04:08 pm (UTC)But Sandy is convinced that, because of the Keating 5 Mess, Connor is completely morally bankrupt, and that Ryan is just making another horrible life choice in a string of horrible life choices... There is conflict.
