Wrote this right after watching the season finale of Las Vegas. Loved the Danny/Mary stuff. Just plain love Danny/Mary...lol Anyway, one line of Danny's, to Frank Connell, inspired this, a look back on when Danny and Mary were teenagers.

It kinda has spoilers for the finale, so don't read if you don't wanna be spoiled. I only did a short read through for spelling errors, so forgive me if there are still some.

DISCLAIMER: Don't own any of them.

Never Again
By Mara

Danny McCoy yawned as the tapping on his window continued, and he pushed himself up out of bed to stay out. At 16, a girl at his window wasn't unusual, though Mary Connell always came for different reasons than the rest. She came when it got too painful at home. Meaning whenever she was alone with her father. He got up and opened the window, silently letting her in then going back to bed and holding up the sheets for her to crawl in beside him.

Mary gratefully did, her head pressed to his chest as his arms closed around her. Slowly, the tears started to fall, and she clung to Danny, listening as he murmured quiet reassurances, quiet promises to protect her, if she'd only ask. She never asked though, she didn't want to destroy her already fractured family. But now, she knew she had no choice. "Help me, Danny," she whispered.

Danny closed his eyes and pressed his lips against the top of her head. "I will, Mary. I will," he swore. "He'll never touch you again, I promise."

Mary nodded against him, pushing him so he was laying on his back and she could put her head on his chest, her ear directly over his heart. She listened to the soothing beat, letting it slowly calm her. Slowly, Danny's breathing evened out and she knew he was asleep again. "I love you, Danny," she whispered, wishing she had the strength to tell him when he was awake.

~~~~
Frank Connell was startled out of his sleep by the sound of his bedroom door being flung open. He sat up and his blurry vission landed on Danny. "What are you doing here?" he asked.
"You're not gonna touch her again," Danny said.
"What are you talking..."
"Don't try to lie!" Danny yelled. "I know what you've been doing to Mary! What the hell is wrong with you?! She's your daughter!"
"Get out of my house!"
"Stay away from Mary!" Danny countered. "If you come near her again, if you ever, EVER, touch her again, I will kill you! Do you understand that?"
"Am I supposse to be afraid of you?"
"Yeah, you are," Danny replied. "Stay away from her."
~~~~

Danny walked into his house and ignored his dad, who was sitting at the kitchen table, heading straight to his bedroom, where Mary paced the floor, wearing one of his t-shirts and a pair of his boxers. "It's okay," he told her.

"Danny?" Mary asked, stopping to look at him. "What do you mean?"

"I took care of it. He will never touch you again. I swear."

"Danny?"

"I swear," Danny repeated, walking over and pulling her close. "Never again."
