Ryan's first trip home from college, and John has to give him a hard time, like any dad would. There's mentions of characters from a third fandom which may or may not appear in later chapters of Mercy, it just seemed perfect for the conversation... lol
"I broke up a party the other night," John said as he drove Ryan home from the airport during Christmas break.
"So?" Ryan replied.
"Naomi was there."
Ryan sighed. "John..."
"She asked how you were, even as I hauled her into the station for disturbing the peace."
"You arrested my ex-girlfriend?"
"There were a hell of a lot of drunk freshmen, including Naomi herself," John said. "She owns the house, it was her party. She's responsible."
Ryan was quiet for a moment. "What'd you tell her?"
"That you're doing good, and that you were coming home for break."
"So I can expect a visit?"
"Silver called to get details on when she can kidnap you."
"I hope you reminded her that kidnapping is a crime," Ryan said, though he was grinning.
"I told her to be there tonight at eight and you were all hers for the night," John replied. "That gives you time to tell me all about how college is treating you."
"Meaning...?" Ryan asked.
"Classes going okay? Made any friends? Met any cute girls?"
"Fine, a couple, no way in hell am I telling."
"In other words, you've got girls hanging on your every word and it's embarrassing," John translated with a laugh.
"Shut up," Ryan said, shaking his head as he chuckled.
"What's her name?"
"Who?"
"The one girl out of the dozens who's got your attention."
"There is no girl."
"Of course not."
"There isn't. I'm focusing on school."
"Then who left the lipstick mark on your collar?"
Ryan's gaze snapped down, looking to see how bad the mark she'd left was, then he realized the trap he'd stepped into when John laughed. "Fine, there's a girl. It's not serious, though. It's..."
"Friends with benefits?"
"No."
"Random hook ups without friendship? Because I don't approve of that," John said, trying to sound stern, though his grin gave him away.
"She's a friend, we just... I don't know," Ryan said, looking out the window.
John sighed, recognizing from two years of trial and error that he'd hit a wall and wouldn't get anything else out of the kid on the subject. "Caesar's grilling some steaks for dinner."
"He better not put that disgusting mango puree on them this time," Ryan said, relaxing a little bit at the safe topic of Caesar's food experiments.
"He said something about a Peach Marinade," John said, laughing as Ryan groaned and muttered about revenge. "Then I reminded him that you hate his experiments, and he settled on honey mustard marinade with a touch of barbeque sauce."
"I hate you," Ryan said, chuckling.
"Love you, too, kid," John said, reaching over to squeeze Ryan's shoulder.
The End
Yes, Ryan is aware that John is Gay (he'll find out over the course of Mercy...), and he is very much a supporter of the John/Caesar relationship... mostly because he likes having someone to help him give John a hard time... and since we don't know a whole lot about Caesar, besides the fact that he seems to enjoy giving John a hard time (based on his scenes in 'Derailed'), I've made it that Caesar likes to cook, and likes to experiment with recipes, quite often trying to get more fruits and veggies into Ryan and John's diets in the process...
I don't know if I'll actually go this way in the regular story, but for the sake of these mostly happy post-Mercy stories, John lives just barely within the school district for West Beverly Hills High, so Ryan went to school with Naomi Clarke, Erin Silver, Liam Court, and the rest for his junior and senior years. Ryan, Silver, and Liam are really good friends. Ryan and Naomi dated for a while, but it didn't work out in the end and things are kinda on edge between them. Ryan despises Adrianna Tate-Duncan with all of his being...
In fact, if I do go the way of having Ryan go to West Bev, then I may kinda do an AU of the Oliver Trask situation... Oliver would have the bad taste to fall for Adrianna, and I can see her getting herself, Naomi, and/or Silver into the hostage situation with Oliver... the difference being, John would not willing let Ryan within a hundred feet of a crazy guy with a gun, and he'd be livid at whoever was responsible for Ryan ending up in that position... it could be awesome... lol

Date: 2012-02-05 05:17 am (UTC)I like the way that Ryan and Cooper fit together. Plus I am looking forward to seeing Ryan's interaction with Caeser, because if the little talk about him in this, it sounds like they are good friends.
I was wondering a couple things though. With Cooper being a cop and a lot of his cop friends knowing Ryan, will Ryan lean more towards being a cop or stick with being an architect?
The second thing I was wondering is that you have written other crossovers and regular fan fiction. I was wondering if I could add you as my first friend on live journal, so I can read your other, probably great fics and so I can know when you update one of them.

Date: 2012-02-05 05:37 am (UTC)I've actually gone back and forth about Ryan's future career in this 'Verse... Mostly because I keep going to the funny side of things if Ryan was to become a cop... like Cooper muttering about having to trust someone else to be Ryan's trying officer... and Ryan having to spend a day riding with Dewey, who he hates... jokes from other cops about Ryan being Cooper's clone when on the job... lol
I'm sort of known for my crossovers, actually... The OC/One Tree Hill is the one I crossover the most, but also The OC/Supernatural, The OC/Eureka/Warehouse 13/Stargates/Torchwood/Doctor Who (Yes... all in one big crossover universe) and lots of miscellaneous crossovers...
Feel free to add me to your friends, I'll add you back as soon as I get the notification...
