Another little snippet in my Ryan/Jess SLASH universe. This one takes place pretty much right after the first one (where Jess and Ryan arrived outside Luke's Diner), and features Ryan interactiong with Luke and then Lorelai. There's funny, and mushy, and I like it. Especially the parts that mention Sophie Rose... you'll see why...
Ryan/Jess Snippet - Ryan Meets Luke Danes & Lorelai Gilmore
"Look, I grew up on copious amounts of coffee, Mr. Danes," Ryan said while Jess sat back and watched. "More isn't going to kill me. But I've spent hours stuck in a car with Jess, and if I don't get coffee, I will end up killing someone else."
Jess smirked, watching Luke glower at Ryan, who had a calm and even look on his face. "Luke, just give him the coffee," Jess finally said.
"And encourage someone else to be addicted to the crap?"
"Please, crap is the stupid frappachinos or whatever they're called that everyone back home in Newport drinks," Ryan said. "I just want a cup of plain, ordinary coffee. I'll even compromise. One cup of regular, and then decaf."
Luke considered for a moment, then grabbed a mug and poured Ryan a cup of coffee. "Decaf after this," he said firmly, clearly thinking he had won.
The moment Luke's back was turned, Ryan grinned and raised an eyebrow at Jess, who snorted. "Luke, he set you up."
"What?" Luke asked, turning back.
"I warned him about the coffee thing, and he already planned the compromise," Jess said, laughing. "He was just arguing with you for the hell of it."
"Hey, I'm on the far side of the country from my family, so I can't give Kirsten a hard time about Yogalattes, I gotta get my entertainment somewhere," Ryan said.
"What the hell are Yogalattes?" Luke asked.
"I have no idea," Ryan admitted. "But it's family tradition, Sandy and I tease Kirsten about them, Seth defends her, and we all laugh."
"Ryan's family is slightly insane," Jess said. "His siblings are real nutcases, though."
"Only Seth is," Ryan protested. "Kaitlin and Sophie Rose are perfectly normal."
"Kaitlin asked really inappropriate questions about our sex life, and Sophie Rose like attached herself to my leg!"
"She likes you!"
"Proof she's crazy," Luke said with a smirk.
"Exactly," Jess said.
"And yet, you read her a bedtime story," Ryan said with his own smirk.
"Please tell me there were unicorns and fairies in it?" Luke asked, grinning. "Or puppies and kittens maybe?"
"Fluffy bunny rabbits," Ryan said.
"I would have paid money to see that," Luke said.
"It was good," Ryan agreed, nodding as he took the last swallow of his coffee, then grinning as Luke refilled it with regular instead of decaf.
"Luke! I need coffee!" Lorelai called as she walked into the diner and flopped down, head on folded arms, at the counter.
"How many cups did you have this morning?" Luke replied.
"I'd lay money on at least 3," Jess said.
Lorelai raised her head and glared. "You're back? Perfect end to a lousy morning."
"Missed you, too, Lorelai," Jess said. "And NYU is great, thanks for asking. I really enjoy my classes."
Lorelai glowered for another minute, then shrugged. "Rory's on the verge of flunking out, so at least someone's doing good at college," she said with a sigh.
"Yeah, well, my boyfriend kicks my ass if I don't may attention," Jess said.
"Good," Lorelai said, nodding. It took a few seconds for exactly what Jess had said to work through her brain and when it did she looked up sharply, jaw dropping as she noticed Ryan behind Jess, their legs touching. "Oh... my... god..." she said. "Are you serious?"
"Yes, Lorelai, I'm dating a guy at the moment," Jess said. "Sleeping with him, too."
"Oh geeze," Luke muttered. "I don't wanna hear about it!"
"If only Kaitlin'd had that reaction," Jess said to Ryan, who snorted.
"One of my sisters is the queen of highly inappropriate questions to ask at the dinner table with assorted parents and siblings present," Ryan explained to Lorelai. "She has no boundaries."
"You'd like Kaitlin," Jess told Lorelai. "She's annoying, just like you."
"Ah, but is she as adorable and loveable as me?" Lorelai asked.
"I don't know, can anyone call a girl who wears skull and crossbone earrings 'adorable'?" Jess asked Ryan.
"She's an evil genuis," Ryan said. "I think only immediate family find her loveable."
"So just like you, Lorelai," Jess said with a smirk.
Ryan smacked the back of his head. "You're being an ass again," he said before taking another sip of his coffee.
Luke considered for a moment, then nodded. "I like this guy," he said. "One more cup of regular, then I switch you to decaf."
"Of course they'd like you instantly," Jess complained, though he was smiling. "Your family hated me, so of course mine likes you."
"They didn't hate you!" Ryan protested, laughing.
"He's nicer than you are," Lorelai said at the same time.
"He gets bonus points for putting up with you," Luke also chimed in.
"I hate all three of you," Jess muttered.
"Aw, we love you, too, Jess!" Lorelai said with a grin.
Ryan smiled slightly when Jess glanced sideways at him, knowing Jess would get that Ryan did love him.
"Oh my god, Jess has a soft smile," Lorelai said, stunned. "I didn't think that existed."
End Of Snippet
I have a couple snippets of this universe that are highly angsty (One of the boys is in the hospital after being gaybashed, the other is flat out refusing to leave the bedside), but I also have this idea for a snippet taking place when Jess and Ryan ahve been a couple for like a decade or so which would probably be much happier... we'll see which gets posted next...
In side news, I am so relieved to be just about done with my Apocalyptothon entry. I WAS gonna go with one request and I actually wrote some stuff for it, but it kept begging to turn into a crossover and I didn't want to do that with a request response... so I switched to one of the others and wound up with an original character carrying half the story and it may be horrible but... I sort of like it... lol... I still need to spellcheck/beta and edit and stuff, and then in Early September I'll fidn out what the requester thinks... gah I'm nervous... lol... but if it sucks, it sucks... it's sort of my first attempt to write this fandom, so... we'll see.
