Summary: The Roe sisters are bound together by something as strong as blood: magic.
Notes: Haley is the oldest at 25, Summer is in the middle at 23, and Brooke is the baby at almost 21. Their mother was Karen Roe, who died when Brooke was 17. I wrote this in about an hour and a half, nonstop except if a song that REALLY didn't fit came on my playlist and I hit 'skip' to move on... lol There's a graphic under the cut, and while I LOVE how Haley looks, and like how Summer looks, I have issues with Brooke's head (she looks vaguely alien... lol), so I'll probably redo it sometime this week, but... overall I like it.
Semi-Charmed Life #1 - Sisters Three

Brooke Roe walked up the steps of her childhood home and eased open the door, biting her lip. It had been almost 3 years since she'd been home, since her exasperation at her sister's over protectiveness had caused her to tell them that she was all grown up and didn't need them. "Hello?" she called quietly.
The response was almost immediate, Haley's head poking out of the kitchen and Summer stepping out of the living room. Only Haley ran to greet her though, pulling the baby of the family into a tight embrace. "Tigger!" Haley cried happily.
"Hey, big sister," Brooke replied, hugging her tightly and looking past her to Summer, who was standing in the living room doorway, arms crossed over her chest and lips pursed. "What? Not happy to see me, Sum?"
"I thought you were all grown up and didn't need us anymore?" Summer replied.
"Every girl needs her sisters," Brooke said. "Can you honestly tell me you didn't miss me like crazy?"
"Yes," Summer said, but she did walk over and give Brooke a hug. "How long are you here for? And how much money do you need?"
"A couple days and... not much?"
"Brooke," Haley said, sighing.
"I had to quit my job, my boss was such a jerk..." Brooke began.
"You're room is right where it was 3 years ago, we'll talk in the morning," Haley said, gesturing up the stairs. "For now, just go get changed into something dry and we'll have dinner, okay?"
"Thanks, Hales," Brooke said, shouldering her small bag and hurrying up the stairs. She knew she could convince them to loan her the money if she just found the right way to phrase it.
~~~
"So, why'd you get fired?" Summer asked with a smirk as the sisters sat down.
"I told you, I quit," Brooke replied.
"Sure you did," Summer said, rolling her eyes.
"Guys, come on," Haley pleaded. "It's our first night together in 3 years, can't we have a civil dinner?"
"Sorry, Haley," Summer said. She looked pointedly at Brooke.
"What? I didn't start it, why should I apologize?"
"Don't," Haley said warningly to both of them.
"You know what today is, right?" Brooke asked.
"What?" Haley said.
"Summer Solstice," Brooke said. "Longest day of the year, and a powerful day for magic."
"We haven't played Witch since we were kids, Brooke," Haley said, laughing.
"So? It could be fun!"
"And you're always all about the fun, aren't you?" Summer said.
"Why can I never do anything right by you?" Brooke asked.
"Because you can never do anything right?" Summer countered.
"Enough!" Haley said.
"I lost my appetite anyway," Brooke said, pushing away from the table and going back upstairs. As she passed the door to the attic stairs, she heard a noise and opened it to peek up the stairs to the door at the top, which was standing wide open. "No wonder this place is always so cold," she muttered as she headed up the narrow staircase. At the top, she couldn't resist her urge to look around, and stepped inside. She wandered around, remembering the games she and her sisters used to play up here, pretending they had magic powers and imagining their Prince Charmings. Brooke was the only one who'd ever been sure she actually saw hers, blonde with a soft smile and sad but gentle eyes. He'd been their protector, and when she'd almost gotten hit by a car when she was 8, she'd sworn upside down that he had grabbed her and whisked her off to safety across the street in a swirl of blue light.
Brooke spotted a half open trunk and knelt down to open it, finding a big leather bound book on top, the lettering in a fancy script almost impossible to read in the dim light. Something about it made her open it, though, and the pages seemed to flip on her own before stopping on a single page. "Invoking The Power Of Three," she read.
Hear now the words of the witches
The secrets we hid in the night.
The oldest of gods are invoked here
The great work of magic is sought.
In this night and in this hour
We call upon the ancient power.
Bring your powers to us sisters three
We want the power. Give us the power.
As she finished reading the verse, the dim overhead light flickered and went out, plunging Brooke into darkness and making her jump. "Yeah, that's not even remotely creepy," she muttered as she hurriedly closed the book and put it back in the trunk before getting up and using the moonlight to find the door. As she turned to close the door, she thought she saw a shimmering light in one corner of the attic, and whipped her head around to look, but there was nothing there.
Shaking her head, she headed back downstairs, closing the door and hearing it lock as it did.
~~~
"I found a book in the attic," Brooke told her sisters the next morning as they tried to work the breaker box in the basement.
"Really, I'm shocked," Summer replied.
"It was a magic book," Brooke said, making a face at Summer's back. "Something about calling on ancient power and wanting the power..."
"I give up," Haley said, closing the box. "Time to call an electrician."
As the girls started upstairs, Brooke continued. "I'm serious, I read this incantation thing, and that's when the lights went out."
"You have always had a big imagination," Haley said with a smile.
"Remember her blue light hero?" Summer said mockingly.
"He was real!" Brooke protested. "And he saved my life!"
The doorbell ran as they entered the hall, and Haley went over to open it. On the other side was a blonde haired man facing the street. "Can I help you?" she asked.
The man turned and flashed a smile. "Hi, I'm hero to fix the electricity?"
"We haven't called anyone yet," Haley said.
"Really?" he said, glancing down at the clipboard in front of him and flipping up a few pages. "No, it's right here, 716 Fairview Lane."
"That's... weird..." Haley said. "Summer, did you?"
"When? I was busy trying to make sure Brooke wasn't going to rob us as we slept," Summer replied.
"Brooke?"
"And risk being accused of running up a phone bill?" Brooke replied.
"Since I'm here and you obviously do need my services..." the man began.
"Why not," Haley said, letting him in. 'I'm Haley Roe, these are my sisters, Summer and Brooke."
The man smiled. "Ryan Atwood," he said, shaking Haley's hand.
Brooke started as she got a look at the smile, recognizing it but not sure where from. "Hi," she said.
"No flirting with the handyman!" Summer scolded.
"Circuit box is in the basement," Haley said, leading the way.
"I'll have your power back up in no time," Ryan promised with a smile as they started down the steps and he flicked on a flashlight.
"Good luck, I'm not exactly unhandy myself and I can't even get a flicker."
"These old houses are finicky," Ryan said. "If you don't have a feather light touch, they get grouchy."
"We really don't want to have to gut the walls and get new wiring, it's all original molding..."
"I don't think that'll be necessary," Ryan said, stepping in front of the circuit box and blocking Haley's view of what he was doing. A moment later, the lights came on, steady and brighter than they'd been in a long time. "See?"
"You're an angel!" Haley said, thrilled. "Thank you!"
"Just my job, Miss Roe," he said.
"Any chance I could convince you to look at the chandelier in the dining room? It keeps flickering."
"Not a problem," Ryan agreed.
~~~
"He reminds me of someone," Brooke said.
"Who knows, maybe you jumped his bones in high school," Summer said.
"Or maybe you did," Brooke countered.
"Don't start, you two," Haley said warningly. "Ryan fixed the power, now he's going to take a look at the chandelier.
"Are you just an electrician?" Brooke asked.
"Jack of all trades," Ryan replied as he gazed up at the chandelier. "Got a ladder? I didn't think I'd need one so I didn't bring mine."
"Yeah, Summer can you help me?" Haley said.
Brooke watched Ryan closely. "Are you from San Fransisco?"
"Nah, I'm from Newport originally," Ryan said. "Born and raised. Came here a while back."
"College?"
"Work."
"Here you go," Haley said as she and Summer returned.
"Since you said you're a jack of all trades, could you maybe do something about a freaky attic door? When it's locked we can't even get it open with the key, but then sometimes it opens all on it's own," Haley said.
"I can take a look."
~~~
That evening, after Ryan left with the promise to bring the tools and fix the attic door the next day, the girls were settling down to dinner when Brooke's phone rang. She looked at it and saw the Caller ID, then hit the end button and put it down on the table only to have it ring again. This time she glanced at the screen then turned the phone off, only to have the house phone ring.
"Hello?" Summer said as she grabbed it. After a moment, she held the phone out to Brooke. "It's for you."
Brooke slowly got up and took the phone. "Hello?"
"Hey, pretty girl."
"I really don't want to talk to you, Lucas," Brooke said. "I hung up on you twice in the last five minutes, so take the hint." She hung up the phone and returned to the table, seeing the looks she was getting from her sisters. "My ex, we broke up before I came home and he wants to get back together." No sooner did the words leave her mouth than the phone rang again, and Summer got up to grab it again.
"Hello? No, I won't put Brooke on. Take a hint, she doesn't want to talk to you, so please stop calling her," Summer said before hanging up. "He either really loves you, or he's a creep," she told her little sister as she sat down again.
"A little from Column A, a little from Column B," Brooke replied. "That's where the 'ex' part comes in."
"Does he have anything to do with your sudden return?" Haley asked.
"Maybe," Brooke said. "I can handle it."
"I don't know..." Haley said. "We're both working tonight, I don't like leaving you..."
"I'll be fine," Brooke repeated. "Lucas is on the east coast, far away from me. No worries. And I promise, Sum, I won't rob you blind."
Summer stuck her tongue out. "We're both at the club tonight," she said. "The number's on the fridge. I'm bartending, Haley's singing."
"Just call, okay? If anything happens, call," Haley said.
"Yes, mom," Brooke said. "I'll be fine."
~~~
Brooke was sitting curled up on the couch with a sketchbook and trying not to be freaked out by the storm outside, when the phone rang, and she reluctantly answered it. "Hello?"
"Don't hang up on, Brooke."
"Lucas, I told you, it's over. Please, just leave me alone..."
"You're my girl..."
"Not anymore."
"You'll always be my girl."
Brooke hung up and started to go back to her sketchbook when she caught movement outside and lifted her head in time to see the knob on the sunroom doors turn under the curtains. "Go away!" she yelled, jumping up and rushing forward to slam the opening door shut and quickly lock it. Distantly, she heard the phone ringing again, but was too stunned by the hand that smashed through the glass and scrambled over the knob until it found the button.
Brooke ran, planning to get to the front door and run for her car, but as she passed the stairs she suddenly felt the urge to turn and go up, somehow certain that if she could get to the attic, she'd be safe because nothing could hurt her there. But as she turned the first corner at the landing, she felt a hand wrap around her ankle and yank, making her smash face first into the steps, a groan escaping past her lips. She tried to get up on her hands and knees and crawl away, but a hand wrapped in her hair and forced her over onto her back, leaving her facing an angry Lucas.
"What made you think that you could leave me?" Lucas asked, sounding genuinely confused.
Brooke groaned again, and as he leaned close, she smashed her forehead into his nose and brought her knee up to his groin at the same time, shoving him away and scrambling to her feet. She got to the attic stairs this time, hearing him right behind her, and ran as fast as she could only to find the door jammed shut again. "No!" she screamed, hitting it with her fist until Lucas grabbed her from behind and spun her around, pinning her against the wood.
"You don't get it, Brooke, you're mine."
"Please..." Brooke whimpered, one hand wrapping around the doorknob and turning it, only to have it open freely this time. She fell back into the attic, Lucas landing on top of her, blood from his nose dripping onto her face. "Get off of me!" she yelled, shoving at him with her eyes squeezed shut and her head turned away.
Lucas raised his hand to hit her across the cheek, only to stop mid move as Haley's voice screamed from further down the stairs.
"Stop!"
Brooke slowly opened her eyes to see Lucas frozen mid swing, his teeth bared in a snarl. She tugged slightly, pulling free of his grasp, and pushed herself back from him. "Hales?"
"Brooke," Haley called, coming up the stairs and staring at Lucas for only a moment before rushing to Brooke's side and gathering her sister in her arms. "Are you okay, baby?' she whispered.
"What happened to him?" Brooke whispered.
"Miss Roe?" A voice called from the foot of the stairs, and a moment later, Ryan appeared, completely dry and somehow not surprised at the sight of a frozen Lucas. "Are you guys okay?" he asked them.
"Brooke's hurt," Haley whispered.
"Take her downstairs and get some ice from the freezer," Ryan said. "I'll take care of this guy."
"But..."
"Trust me," Ryan said.
Haley nodded and helped Brooke stand, both of them edging around Lucas' still frozen form.As they reached the bottom of the stairs, Brooke glanced back over their shoulders and saw a shimmer of blue light that disappeared almost immediately.
~~~
"What happened?" Summer asked as she ran in, completely soaked and not caring as she saw Haley still cradling Brooke in her arms.
"Her ex broke in," Haley said. "God, if I hadn't come home..."
"He just... froze," Brooke said. "He was gonna hit me, and he just froze..."
"You're upset, sweetie," Summer said, looking at the bruises that were forming and the slightly crooked set of Brooke's nose.
"Yeah, but she's not imagining things, either," Ryan said as he came into the kitchen, jaw set. "It's taken care of."
"Thank you," Haley said.
"What do you mean Brooke's not imagining things?" Summer asked.
"He was frozen, mid swing," Haley said.
"That's your gift," Ryan said. "You freeze things in time."
"What?"
"Summer, I'll bet sometimes just what you need slides right into your hand, doesn't it?" Ryan asked, looking over at her. "Especially today."
"How did you...?"
"Ever know something was going to happen before it did?" Ryan asked Brooke, who was pale even as she nodded. "A lot of people have been waiting for you three to wake up."
"Wake up?"
"Your gifts," Ryan said. "They've been dormant, locked away to protect you, but now... you found the way to unlock it. It's getting to be time, and You'll need to practice."
"What are you talking about?" Summer said.
"You're not wet," Haley said at the same time. "How did you take care of Lucas and not get wet?"
Ryan smiled slightly. "Well..."
"You're him," Brooke whispered as she slowly stood up from her stool and stepped towards him. "Prince Charming."
Ryan smiled again and closed the distance, gently running his hand over first one side and then the other of her face before stepping back. "Wouldn't go that far," he said. "But I am watching out for you, all three of you, and I will be for as long as you need me to."
"Who are you?"
"Your fix-it guy," Ryan said with a smile. "I'll fix the door, both of them, tomorrow," he promised before leaving the room, a blue light filling the hall for a moment.
"I told you," Brooke whispered.
Summer and Haley turned towards Brooke and gasped. "Oh my God," Summer whispered.
Brooke's formerly bruised and battered face, along with her broken nose, looked like nothing had happened except for a few bits of dried blood clinging to her skin.
The End
I know this one only shows one of their powers, Haley's, being used, but since I'm deviately very much from how Charmed went about things... lol... In this universe, the girls always had the powers, but they were basically, as Ryan suggested, asleep and therefore it was easy to shrug off anything that happened as being an odd coincidence. Basically, though, don't assume too much of Charmed will be echoed here besides the 3 sister witches who are powerful and have a destiny basic premise.
Yes, Ryan is a Whitelighter (Guardian Angel of sorts with healing abilities who travels in ords of swirling blue light, for those who don't know Charmed). I'll explain his backstory in a later addition to this universe, but I will say that yes, he's the same person who saved Brooke from a car when she was 8, and who she called her Prince Charming when the girls used to play games, so he's been a Whitelighter for at LEAST 13 years or so... lol...
Oh, while eventually it'll probably turn up in a story, I'll tell you now that Lucas isn't dead or anything, Ryan's a good guy and wouldn't do that, no matter how tempting. He just made sure he knew that he better not mess with the Roe sisters again.
I am most likely going to blend this into other universes, as well, because come on... who needs a Whitelighter more than the Winchesters?

"Please..." Brooke whimpered, one hand wrapping around the doorknob and turning it, only to have it open freely this time. She fell back into the attic, Lucas landing on top of her, blood from his nose dripping onto her face. "Get off of me!" she yelled, shoving at him with her eyes squeezed shut and her head turned away.
Lucas raised his hand to hit her across the cheek, only to stop mid move as Haley's voice screamed from further down the stairs.
"Stop!"
Brooke slowly opened her eyes to see Lucas frozen mid swing, his teeth bared in a snarl. She tugged slightly, pulling free of his grasp, and pushed herself back from him. "Hales?"
"Brooke," Haley called, coming up the stairs and staring at Lucas for only a moment before rushing to Brooke's side and gathering her sister in her arms. "Are you okay, baby?' she whispered.
"What happened to him?" Brooke whispered.
"Miss Roe?" A voice called from the foot of the stairs, and a moment later, Ryan appeared, completely dry and somehow not surprised at the sight of a frozen Lucas. "Are you guys okay?" he asked them.
"Brooke's hurt," Haley whispered.
"Take her downstairs and get some ice from the freezer," Ryan said. "I'll take care of this guy."
"But..."
"Trust me," Ryan said.
Haley nodded and helped Brooke stand, both of them edging around Lucas' still frozen form.As they reached the bottom of the stairs, Brooke glanced back over their shoulders and saw a shimmer of blue light that disappeared almost immediately.
~~~
"What happened?" Summer asked as she ran in, completely soaked and not caring as she saw Haley still cradling Brooke in her arms.
"Her ex broke in," Haley said. "God, if I hadn't come home..."
"He just... froze," Brooke said. "He was gonna hit me, and he just froze..."
"You're upset, sweetie," Summer said, looking at the bruises that were forming and the slightly crooked set of Brooke's nose.
"Yeah, but she's not imagining things, either," Ryan said as he came into the kitchen, jaw set. "It's taken care of."
"Thank you," Haley said.
"What do you mean Brooke's not imagining things?" Summer asked.
"He was frozen, mid swing," Haley said.
"That's your gift," Ryan said. "You freeze things in time."
"What?"
"Summer, I'll bet sometimes just what you need slides right into your hand, doesn't it?" Ryan asked, looking over at her. "Especially today."
"How did you...?"
"Ever know something was going to happen before it did?" Ryan asked Brooke, who was pale even as she nodded. "A lot of people have been waiting for you three to wake up."
"Wake up?"
"Your gifts," Ryan said. "They've been dormant, locked away to protect you, but now... you found the way to unlock it. It's getting to be time, and You'll need to practice."
"What are you talking about?" Summer said.
"You're not wet," Haley said at the same time. "How did you take care of Lucas and not get wet?"
Ryan smiled slightly. "Well..."
"You're him," Brooke whispered as she slowly stood up from her stool and stepped towards him. "Prince Charming."
Ryan smiled again and closed the distance, gently running his hand over first one side and then the other of her face before stepping back. "Wouldn't go that far," he said. "But I am watching out for you, all three of you, and I will be for as long as you need me to."
"Who are you?"
"Your fix-it guy," Ryan said with a smile. "I'll fix the door, both of them, tomorrow," he promised before leaving the room, a blue light filling the hall for a moment.
"I told you," Brooke whispered.
Summer and Haley turned towards Brooke and gasped. "Oh my God," Summer whispered.
Brooke's formerly bruised and battered face, along with her broken nose, looked like nothing had happened except for a few bits of dried blood clinging to her skin.
The End
I know this one only shows one of their powers, Haley's, being used, but since I'm deviately very much from how Charmed went about things... lol... In this universe, the girls always had the powers, but they were basically, as Ryan suggested, asleep and therefore it was easy to shrug off anything that happened as being an odd coincidence. Basically, though, don't assume too much of Charmed will be echoed here besides the 3 sister witches who are powerful and have a destiny basic premise.
Yes, Ryan is a Whitelighter (Guardian Angel of sorts with healing abilities who travels in ords of swirling blue light, for those who don't know Charmed). I'll explain his backstory in a later addition to this universe, but I will say that yes, he's the same person who saved Brooke from a car when she was 8, and who she called her Prince Charming when the girls used to play games, so he's been a Whitelighter for at LEAST 13 years or so... lol...
Oh, while eventually it'll probably turn up in a story, I'll tell you now that Lucas isn't dead or anything, Ryan's a good guy and wouldn't do that, no matter how tempting. He just made sure he knew that he better not mess with the Roe sisters again.
I am most likely going to blend this into other universes, as well, because come on... who needs a Whitelighter more than the Winchesters?
