AU. Ryan is the youngest son of John and Mary Winchester. It's not eally important to this snippet but, the backstory is:
Mary survived the YED attack when Sam was 6 months old. But when h tried again when Ryan was 6 months old, she was killed. John still went into hunting when Sam was a baby because of the attempt, but Mary helped, too. Because of Mary contiuing to live for several more years, Sam was less eager to live a 'normal' life, and more wanting to find the YED. Ryan's the one who, despite his sense of loyalty, wanted slightly more normal.
"Seriously dude, a bunny?" Dean said from his spot reclined on Ryan's Couch, Flapjacks on his stomach getting the base of his ears scritched by Dean.
Sam shrugged apologetically from his seat on the desk chair. "He made me pick the lock," he said.
"Call him a bunny again and he'll either bite you or poop in your shoes," Ryan said simply. "Flapjacks is a rabbit."
"Flapjacks?" Dean asked, snorting.
"You have a bunny named Flapjacks?" Sam asked.
"You can bite them both," Ryan told the rabbit, who twitched his nose and hopped from Dean's stomach to his chest, nose twitching again and mouth opening just slightly.
"Shit!" Dean yelled rolling sideways to knock the rabbit off of him then jumping up and moving to the far side of the room while Ryan and Sam both laughed at him. "That thing is blood thirsty!" he protested.
"Good rabbit," Sam said as he watched Ryan scoop the rabbit up and pet him behind the ears.
"What are you guys even doing here?" Ryan asked with a sigh as he finished making sure Flapjacks was okay then put the rabbit in the bathroom so Dean would stop scurrying around the room to stay as far as possible from it.
"What? We can't come check on our baby brother?" Dean said. "And I think we should use some holy water on that bunny, because it's clearly evil..."
"Flapjacks is not evil!" Ryan protested. "He's a five pound rabbit!"
"It was gonna bite me!"
"Didn't you bite Mrs. Callahan when you were 8 because she called you 'adorable'?" Sam asked.
"She was evil, too!" Dean insisted.
"See, now you're gonna get pictures of rabbits as you cellphone background," Sam said.
"Do that and I'll..."
"Oh my god, you two are four years old, I swear," Ryan said, exasperated. "Seriously, why are you here?"
"There's sort of this local hunt, and we thought..." Sam began.
Ryan sighed. "The ghost in Phi Beta," he said. "Yeah, I know. I've been trying to figure out the story, but... it's been hard gettign anyone to talk unless they're so drunk they're only half coherent."
"You've been hunting?"
"I can't escape Dad's training, even at Berkeley," Ryan said, shrugging. "Look, I..."
The door to the apartment opened again, and this time it was Ryan's girlfriend who came in, her back to them as she struggled with grocery bags. "I got munchies while we go over the... oh, hi," she said as she turned and spotted Dean and Sam. "You're Ryan's brothers, aren't you?"
"The idiot who's scared of Flapjacks is Dean, bigfoot over there is Sam," Ryan introduced. "Guys, this is my girlfriend, Brooke."
"You're scared of a five pound rabbit?" Brooke asked, scoffing.
"It's evil!" Dean said again.
"Your big bad hunter brother is scared of a five pound rabbit?" Brooke asked Ryan.
"He thinks Flapjacks is possessed," Ryan said. "Brooke's been helping me get info on ther Phi-Beta ghost."
"You'd be amazed what soritory girls will spill about what's been scaring their fratboy boyfriends if they're offered free designer clothes," Brooke said.
"Brooke has her own clothing line," Ryan explained, smiling at her.
"And I am not above bribery for a good cause," Brooke said.
"I like this girl," Dean said.
"You would," Sam said, rolling his eyes.
"And what does that mean?" Brooke asked, hands on her hips.
"Nothing," Sam said, moving so he was on the far side of the room from her.
"Sammy's scared of a girl," Dean mocked. "No offense, but if he's gonna mock me over a bunny..."
"No wonder Flapjacks was gonna bite you, you called him a bunny," Brooke said, annoyed.
