"This just seems really, really, wrong," John said with a sigh as he pulled off his boots so he could strip.

"Fine, die of heat exhaustion first," Lorelai said, shrugging, as she pulled her shirt off. "It's your fault it's so hot anyway."

"How do you figure?"

"It was the freaky ancient gene in the kid that launched the probe that hit the sun and made it go boom!"

"Hasn't gone boom yet," Ryan pointed out as he stood near the ledge that ran around the roof, already stripped down to his boxers and trying to catch the slight breeze.

"And besides, it was Zoe's freaky town that designed the damn thing!" John pointed out.

"I? Am not one of the freaky evil probe buolding genuises!" Zoe protested, hands on her hips before remembering that she was down to her underwear and crossing her arms over her chest.

"Standing like that's just gonna make you hotter," John pointed out.

"Not what the grown man stripping should be saying to a fifteen year-old!" Zoe said.

Ryan snickered. "She has a point. But he's right, arms crossed is gonna keep you from cooling down."

"Like we can anyway?" Lorelai said. "It's gotta be over a hundred!"

John grabbed the thermometer from his tac-vest. "122," he reported.

Lorelai groaned. "I really wasn't asking. Tell me it's a nice and comfortable 65, maybe I'll believe it."

"If the sun doesn't explode and we all survive, I will never again complain about summer in Newport," Ryan said.

"At least there you have the beach," Zoe said.

"The temp goes up much higher and the water would be hot enough to give first degree burns," Ryan said with a sigh.

"Can we start thinking 'cool' instead of 'hot'?" Lorelai complained. "And it's still your fault for not warning us about freaky ancient gene kid!"

"No one told me!" John protested. "And Zoe's town built the probe!"

"Well, Lorelai was suppose to be watching the kid!" Zoe said.

"Oh my God, I'm really gonna spend the last hours of my life with these three," Ryan muttered, heaving a sigh and moving to better catch the breeze.

Right about then, instead of the expected explosion, the sun just suddenly, inexplicably, went dark, plunging them into darkness until John turned on the flashlight from his vest.

"What the hell?" Lorelai asked, looking at where the sun had been.

"Now we get to freeze to death instead of roast," Ryan said. "Joy."

The End
