Yeah... umm... experimental bizarre piece I wrote late last night in about 5 minutes total and added like half a sentence to while spellchecking just now... it's in present tense, although the events that happen in it span several years... It's The OC/Supernatural, centered on Ryan and Dean... but it's definitely not part of my other universe with them... lol... it's kind of... bizarre... fractured... leaves plenty untold but tells the important stuff...

This WAS going to be one of the '10 AUs I Refuse To Write', but... I'm somewhat intrigued by this universe and wouldn't mind writing a couple little things that fit into it... lol... warnign for mentions fo character death, drama, angst, and scars...

Edited: Now with a nifty little manip I made of Ryan and Dean... While they don't perfectly match shading with eachother, I did some stuff to each of them that turned out REALLY cool... lol...

They sedate Ryan to search him, too scared of his violent, psychotic, rages to do it when he was awake. Then they clip his fingernails so short that his fingertips are almost bleeding from the ragged edges digging into sensitive, fragile skin. He gets a short sleeved shirt that doesn't even begin to cover the burn scars on his arms and pajama pants that are so flimsy they'd tear in a heartbeat, long before he could die of suffocation. Ryan is 14 and he's on suicide watch for the indefinite future, because he tells everyone who'll listen that he would rather die than have that thing kill him like it did his family.

"Kid's in denial," the doctors say. "He can't accept that he killed them in the midst of a black out. I almost feel sorry for him, but burning them alive is just... even that poor baby." But the doctor is stupid, he says it where another patient hears, one that isn't as crazy as they think he is.

Dean was instituitionalized when the cops caught up with his dad over a couple deaths in various towns across the country. Dad got locked up, while Dean and Sam went into foster care. Except one foster mom was a demon worshipper, and Dean stopped her from sacrificing poor little Sammy, only to be called crazy and locked up as a murderer. 15 years in a mental ward for the criminally insane, and Dean wants out.

It takes some time to get close enough to Ryan to ask him if the thing that killed his family had yellow eyes, and the way Ryan reacts tells Dean all he needs to know.

"It was real, no matter what they say," Dean says quietly. "Same thing killed my mom. There's lots of stuff like it out there... but these idiots don't believe me and locked me up."

"They think I killed them," Ryan replied. "I would never... I was... they loved me... why would I hurt them?"

"You help me, I'll help you."

Dean teaches Ryan about Demons, and Ryan tells Dean about his adoptive family, how good things were until suddenly they died in the fire caused by the man with yellow eyes. How hsi adoptive grandfather said it was his fault and that the security system had been down so there was no evidence. How his adoptive grandfather had arranged for him to be committed.

It takes years, but Dean gets out first. Sam grows up, becomes a lawyer, gets an appeal for Dean, arguing that his brother was traumatized by their father, his mind warped at a young age, but now after so long with treatment, Dean is better. So Sam gets Dean released, and Dean promises Ryan he'll get him out too.

Sam wants to forget it, he wants to take Dean with him to San Fransisco, he wants to pretend that the evil stuff they know exists doesn't exist. Dean refuses to let him. They break into Ryan's grandfather's mansion and find security tapes from the house. Tapes that show Ryan was in the poolhouse until after the fire started. Tapes that show Ryan screaming and pleading and trying to get into the burning mansion. Tapes that show a shadowy figure looming over a terrified Ryan.

Ryan is released. He's only 17 and all alone, though thanks to Sam and a lawsuit, he's worth a fortune of money that had been his adoptive grandfather's fortune. 3 years in a mental hospital for a crime you didn't commit is worth a fortune apparently. Dean and Sam take Ryan to San Fransisco, and Dean starts looking for supernatural things going on, taking Ryan on hunts with him, though Sam calls them both idiots, and crazy, and then sighs and comes along to 'keep them out of trouble'.

John shows up, out of prison because of good behavior and overcrowding. He doesn't know what to think about Ryan, who's burn scars are livid against pale skin that in another life would have been tan from the southern California sun. Ryan doesn't know what to think about John, who reminds him too much of too many of his biological mother's boyfriends who played nice then lashed out with words and fists. Then Dean tells John about the demon, and the hospital, and how Ryan has memorized the exorcism rituals.

Ryan Winchester hunts alongside his adoptive father and adoptive brothers. John teaches Ryan to shoot and handle knives even better, Dean teaches Ryan how to pretend to be drunk to get information from people who don't trust strangers, and Sam makes sure Ryan doesn't forget his regular homework. They're a family, even if two of them are still labelled as crazy, a third is an ex-con, and the fourth is a lawyer, which isn't all that different from being a criminal sometimes, since he uses his degree to keep his family from getting tossed in prison.

The End
