missmara13I went to a lecture by Jean M. Auel today. OMG it was so cool! I knew most of the informaiton about Ice Age man already, but still! And Mrs. Auel is SO funny! She told us that she and her husband will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary next spring, then when we all all clapped, she said they weren't ALL good years! lol
When she asked for questions, I was really disappointed that like 2 guys kept insisting that it was likely the Neanderthals and Cro-Magnon were warlike, even though Mrs. Auel kept TELLING them there was NO evidence of that! In fact, all evidence points to them being really really peaceful people. The women asked questions like 'Is such and such from the books accurate?' or ' Is the evidence that such and such was a real belief?' or 'What's the evidence that horses and Wolves were domesticated bakc then?'. But those 2 guys kept arguing that the Neanderythals and Cro-Magnons were certainly warlike, and a 3rd guy aked when warfare started becoming commonplace. Ugh... lol
Mrs. Auel actually has no degrees in Anthropology or anything, but she does know enough to probably get a degree if she wanted. She's gone on a few digs, visited all the clasic cave art sites in France, Spain, and Italy, and she's done so much research on everything... I really admire her.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the lecture, but I found out afterwards that there were actually some people who slept through the whole thing! I can't imagine sleeping through that! It was just so cool!
