Part Twelve
Ryan went upstairs to get some peace and quiet in his room at Caleb's, even though he could hear the party still going on downstairs. The room was bigger than his room at he and his mom's house, and filled with all the latest, most expensive, electronics, but Ryan didn't like it half as much. There was something impersonal about the room, and not just because he was hardly ever there and hadn't picked out anything in the room. Caleb had just tried too hard to make it into a room he would like.
Ryan sighed and ran his hands through his hair as he laid down on the bed, wondering what he was going to do. He needed to talk to his grandpa and find out exactly what he said.. He needed to talk to his mom and find out if she thought the same about Alex. He needed to talk to Alex and find out exactly what she heard. He needed to figure out why his life always had to be a god damn soap opera.
~~~
He was startled awake by someone shaking his shoulder, and Ryan rubbed his eyes as he focused on Andrew. "Huh?" he asked, surprised to see it was dark outside his window.
"Your mom was going to let you sleep, but after the argument she had with Mr. Nichols earlier, I don't think she really wants you staying the night," Andrew explained.
"Argument?" Ryan asked, sitting up and grabbing his shoes off the floor. "What happened?"
"She found out about him messing with your love life," Andrew said, grinning. "Don't tell them I said this, but it was great seeing your grandfather get taken down a couple dozen pegs."
Ryan grinned. "I wish I could have seen it," he agreed, getting up and stretching. "I've gotta talk to him, though. He did screw things up between me and Alex, and I gotta know what he said before I try to fix it."
"You can ask him next time you see him," Andrew said, opening the door. Once Ryan was in the hall, he paused to set something on the nightstand, then followed Ryan down the stairs. "Right now, I think you're mom wants you home as soon as possible."
"Yeah, I'd rather sleep in my own bed, anyway," Ryan agreed. He frowned when he saw that the house was empty, and when they stepped outside to find the driveway empty as well, he was surprised. "What time is it, any..." he began, only to stop as he felt something prick his arm. He looked down to see Andrew pulling the needle away from his arm and dropping it to the ground. "Andrew?" he asked, startled, as he pulled away, already feeling sluggish.
"Sorry, kid," Andrew replied with a sigh as he reached out and grabbed Ryan's wrist. "But you'll be back home soon."
Ryan spook his head and tried to pull away, but his vision was beginning to blur, and he felt his legs seemingly turn to jello. "Wh..." he began.
"Don't worry, Ry, it'll be over soon."
Ryan couldn't help the panic that hit him as he hit the ground.
~~~
"Hi, Dad," Kirsten said with a smile as she arrived back at her father's the next morning to get Ryan. "Has he already eaten?"
"I think he's still asleep," Caleb replied.
"It was early when he fell asleep," Kirsten said, frowning. "He should have long since gotten up."
"He may be brooding," Caleb said. "He's not very happy with me at the moment."
"Why not?" Kirsten asked, sitting down across from him at the table.
"I think he may have found out something I said about that girl he brought to the party..."
"Alex?" Kirsten asked. "She seemed nice."
"Did you see the tattoos, Kiki? She's completely inappropriate for a Nichols. That boy is most likely going to be the one who someday owns this company, can you imagine that girl attending business parties with him?"
"Dad, Ryan's 15!" Kirsten replied. "This may not last, and if it does then I don't care as long as he's happy!"
"And you think a girl like that can make him happy?" Caleb asked.
"I think that everytime he looked at her, every time he was talking to her, he was smiling and laughing and happy," Kirsten said. "And I know that something made her leave in a rush and he was upset after that. So upset that he went up to his room here, curled up on his side, and fell asleep!"
"I never thought I would agree with Jimmy Cooper, but he's right about that girl!" Caleb said. "She's not good enough for Ryan. She's a little rebellion, and in the long run it's better for this to end now instead of once he's gotten attached."
"He already is attached, dad," Kirsten said. "I know my son. He's in love." With that, she got up and headed upstairs. When she reached the door to Ryan's room, she knocked, and waited for an answer before walking in.
The bed was empty. The room was empty.
Except for the folded piece of paper on the nightstand, Caleb's name written on it.
Kirsten felt a chill down her spine as she hesitantly reached to pick it up and unfold it, a scream tearing from her throat at the first words.
We have your grandson...
~~~
Pain.
That was the first thought that registered as Ryan slowly came back to consciousness. His shoulders and wrists were the worst, though there was a slight twinge of headache, too. The next thing he realized was that he was sitting in a chair with his arms pulled behind him and tied, his hands feeling more than a little numb. His first clear thought was that Andrew was a dead man when Caleb found out what he'd let happen, followed immediately by the fact that Andrew had been the one pushing the plunger into his arm.
"Well, look who's awake."
Ryan lifted his head to look in the direction of the voice, and through blurred vision saw a vaguely familiar man sitting backwards in a chair. "Who are you?" he asked, confused about why his voice was so slurred.
"Think about it, you'll remember me," the man said coldly.
Ryan frowned as he tried to remember, then it started to come back to him. "My grandpa was fighting with you..." he said.
"Point for the rich brat," Anthony said with a smirk. "Maybe you aren't an idiot."
Someone else came into the room through the door behind him, and by turning his head Ryan just barely managed to make out a man's leg and arm. "What the hell are you thinking letting him see your face?" Andrew said in a harsh voice. "When we let him go..."
"He won't tell anyone anything," the first man replied. "Will you Ryan? For someone Caleb holds so dear, he sure got you a lousy bodyguard."
"Look, my grandfather will pay whatever..."
"You think this is about money?" the first man said, getting up and knocking the chair aside as he walked over and grabbed Ryan's chin, squeezing it tightly. "It's not. It's about making your grandfather hurt the way he made us and our families hurt!"
"Stop before he figures out who you are, you idiot!"
"Fuck off!"
"I don't know what he did to you..." Ryan began, only to get backhanded by the man in front of him.
"He killed my father. He got my friend here's father locked up."
"My grandpa's not a killer..." Ryan said. "It's gotta be a mistake..."
"Fucking little spoiled self righteous..." the first man said, lifting his hand again.
"Stop!" Andrew said, grabbing the first's arm and shoving him away. "Geeze, the kid didn't do nothing!"
"He's a spoiled self righteous brat, Trey! He deserves worse!"
"Trey?" Ryan said, staring at Andrew and realizing why he'd liked the man the moment they met. Trey Atwood, son of Caleb's former housekeeper. Trey who had use to come over to the house after school and would play games with Ryan. Trey who'd taught him to ride a bike. Trey who'd been his friend until 5 years ago, when Trey's dad was caught stealing from Caleb's mansion. "Trey?" Ryan asked again.
Trey swore. "Way to go, Anthony, now he knows who I am!"
"Doesn't matter," Anthony replied. "He's not gonna tell anyone anything ever again." With that he turned away and went to a nearby table, returning a moment later with a needle in his hand.
"Another dose could..." Trey began.
"It's been long enough," Anthony replied. "This isn't gonna hurt him."
"Please," Ryan said, trying to pull his arm away.
"Anthony..." Trey tried again.
"Hold his arm still," Anthony replied.
"What is it? What are you doing?" Ryan asked.
"Hold his fucking arm, Trey!" Anthony snapped.
It was only reluctantly that Trey crouched down and grabbed Ryan's arm to hold it still while Anthony slid the needle in and pressed the plunger down. As Anthony walked away, Trey glanced up at Ryan then looked down again. "It's just a sedative," he said. "Don't worry."
"You were," Ryan said, his voice already slurring again.
"You'll be home in no time," Trey said. "We just want him to know what it's like to have someone he loves taken from him. And then we'll send you home."
"Why?" Ryan asked.
"Don't worry, it'll be okay," Trey repeated.
"Please, let me go..." Ryan pleaded.
"Soon," Trey said. "I promise, you'll be home soon."
Hehe... those who saw the poster a few days ago knew that Trey was gonna be involved in the kidnapping, but I don't think they expected that 'Andrew' was actually Trey... lol... and below is the poster itself... it's a manip of the poster for a movie called 'The 24th Day', staring James Marsden (X-Men) and Scott Speedman (Felicity)...
You can find a pic of the original movie poster HERE. I'm pretty proud of the manip, if I do say so myself... lol
Date: 2007-05-08 05:33 pm (UTC)See? I knew a kidnapping was coming. The question becomes how much of a toll does it take on Ryan physically first and then emotionally, and just what sort of guilt will Caleb- and Kirsten experience too.
Anthony is a real gem!
Date: 2007-05-08 07:46 pm (UTC)I wasn't exactly subtle with the foreshadowing of the kidnapping... lol... I actually know exactly how the kidnapping portion of the story ends (Although some of the middle stuff is fuzzy ont he details...), and there's more twists to come...
Anthony's psychotic... lol... It's fun writing him... in both this and Surrender, he is seriously lacking in any form of morals... lol
Date: 2007-05-09 10:03 pm (UTC)Well, I do hope Ryan will NOT spend all his time kidnapped sedated.
Not only because I fear what the amount of drugs they force on him might do to his system, but also because it should be fun to see the constellation if mean Anthony continues the way he started out already with the backhanding and wanting to hurt the 'spoiled little brat'. Trey's reaction should be especially interesting.
