This is for readers of my new story 'Family' who may not be familiar with the show 'One Tree Hill' and therefore might want some background info on who Brooke Davis (Ryan's wife in 'Family') is. Behind the cut you'll find some basic info on how I view her character, a little bit of background info, both canon and a little bit that I altered for the sake of the fic. If you watch OTH, you don't need to read this (There's a minor spoiler for the season 4 episode about the Prom, but things go AU from there lol). There's also 3 pictures of the lovely Sophia Bush who plays Brooke.

Brooke Davis ~ Who is she?

Beautiful, isn't she? Brooke Penelope Davis was one of the Popular people at Tree Hill High School, she was captain of the Cheerleading Squad and Class President. She has a bubbly, friendly, personality, and likes to have fun and be happy, as well as wanting those around her to be the same. She wants to forgive those who ahve wronged her, but sometimes finds it hard. When she loves someone, she loves them completely and would do anything for them.

Most people think of Brooke as not being smart, and maybe she isn't in the traditional sense, but she's good at reading people, and knows what to say to make a bad situation seem better. She's kind and compassionate, a good shoulder to lean on when you're hurting and need to talk or just need someone to be there. She can be incredibly vulnerable and in need of affection and reassurance, but if you piss her off, she can be a complete bitch and make you regret ever crossing paths with her.

She grew up with money, in a mansion with a doll house made to look like her real house. Then her parents lost everything and made her sell a lot of her things to try to fix the debts they owed. When her father got a job in California, Brooke convinced her parents to let her stay in Tree Hill to finish high school with her friends, and for a time she stayed with Karen Roe, her ex-boyfriend's mother who became like a mother to her, the first person to ever really be a parent to her at all. Brooke suddenly had an adult who cared enough to give her a rules and a curfew, and punish her with groundings and chores if she broke a rule. For the first time, Brooke had to really do for herself, and she learned she could do it.

Brooke's closest friends are Haley James-Scott (who she teasingly calls 'Tutor Wife'), Nathan Scott (Haley's husband), and Marvin 'Mouth' McFadden (A geek who makes Seth Cohen look cool and suave!). These are the people she trusts not to betray her, even though she's had issues with each of them over the years, nothing has seriously damaged their friendships.

In 'Family', she hasn't spoken to Lucas Scott or Peyton Sawyer, her high school sweetheart and her ex-best friend who had an affair behind her back, in years. She remains to this day angry at them, but especially Peyton, for that betrayal. She's also still angry at Peyton for embarassing and devastating her at the Senior Prom by vandalizing her dress, putting the word 'WHORE' across it with something that was invisible until under a black light. Somehow, Peyton believed that Brooke having once had a DRUNKEN one night stand with Peyton's EX-Boyfriend was worse than Peyton having a SOBER on-going affair with Brooke's ACTUAL Boyfriend.

I think that just about covers it.

While the incident with the dress happened on the show, Brooke took the word as being a sign that Peyton, who previously had been giving Brooke the cold shoulder, still cared and they might be able to patch things up. I just didn't like that reaction, so... my universe, my slight alteration to canon... lol

Oh! And new icon for this fic and others starring Brooke and Ryan. It's a bad Manip, I'll probably try to make a better one later, but... I made this one quickly just because I wanted to... lol...
