Another Lay Bare Your Heart Verse ficlet with Connor and Ryan! I just love them...
Ryan slid through the door into Sandy's classroom, trying not to catch anyone's attention as he took a seat in the back to watch the last few minutes of the class. His architecture class had ended early due to a mishap that left several students heading towards either the campus clinic or the hospital, and Ryan figured he'd catch Sandy for lunch, since he'd managed to get in and out of the clinic in time. He absently looked around the room, smiling slightly when he saw a familiar face down near the front, looking back over his shoulder at Ryan with a curious, but seemingly happy, expression on his face.
"And it looks like we are done for the day, especially since my son is here," Sandy said. "So if you have questions, make it quick or wait until my office hours this evening, which I will extend a bit."
Connor had raised an eyebrow as Sandy called Ryan his son, and Ryan shrugged, waiting for the classroom to empty out, though a few students stayed to ask Sandy a question. Connor walked up to where Ryan was sitting, and started to flirt, only to stop when he saw the bandages wrapping Ryan's hand. "What happened?"
"My architecture professor is... unique. He had us make scale models of crosssections of famous buildings, highlighting flaws and successes in the designs. Most of us did it either digitally, or with light weight materials. One guy decided to show off and make a steel version of the empire state building. Yeah, it looked awesome. But the flimsy table for putting it on couldn't handle the weight, and it collapsed. I was an idiot and tried to catch it so it wouldn't land on this tiny little five foot nothing classmate of mine, and... it sliced open my hand and broke two bones."
"Who knew studying architecture was so dangerous..." Connor teased. "I could kiss it better later, if you're interested."
"You con Alex into giving you my number yet?"
"Honestly, I'm a little scared of her."
"She's not the one who'd castrate you," Ryan assured him.
"No, but I think she'd hold me down for the other one to do so."
Ryan laughed. "Probably. Us Bisexuals have to watch each other's backs."
"Aw, see, now I don't know... you've hooked up with girls? Gross," Connor said, grinning.
"If it helps? Those have been bigger disasters than the guys," Ryan said. "I was almost at the point of swearing off everyone and everything."
"Now that would be a disservice to the world."
"The world? Or you?" Ryan countered.
"Both."
"Walsh, why are you bothering my son?" Sandy asked, frowning as he walked up.
"He's not, Sandy," Ryan said. "Connor and I met last week, he was just surprised to hear I'm your son."
"Then wondering what happened to his hand," Connor added. "Apparently he played super hero, catching a falling skyscraper with his bare hands."
"I sliced my palm and broke two bones," Ryan told Sandy. "Already got it taken care of over at Campus Medical, and since my class ended early, I thought we could grab lunch between yours?"
"Sounds like a plan," Sandy said. "I'll see you next class, Walsh."
"Professor," Connor said. "Ryan."
"You really should talk to Alex sometime soon," Ryan told him with a grin.
"Yeah, I should," Connor agreed.
~~~
"Were you flirting with Connor Walsh?" Sandy asked after they were sitting in the car with their lunches.
"Sandy..."
"He's trouble, Ryan."
"He's a nice guy..."
"He's been arrested multiple times..."
"So have I," Ryan argued. "Remember? Grand theft auto, arson, assault and battery? Any of that ring any bells?"
"I'm just worried."
"Don't be, I'm a big boy."
"Just think of Lucy..."
"I always think of Lucy," Ryan snapped back. "It always boils down to you thinking I suck at being a parent, doesn't it?"
"That's not what I..."
"My daughter will always come first. But I am 21 years old, Sandy. I am allowed to every so often, be a 21 year-old and have a night out, have a life beyond being a dad. I work my ass off, both in class and at home, and it pisses me off that you continue to treat me like I'm a stupid kid who can't do anything right."
"Ryan..."
"Just... drop it, Sandy. Because guess what? If I don't have the occasional night out? You don't get to babysit. Pretty sure Kirsten will kill you if you cost her time with her first grandchild."
~~~
"How do I convince you I'm not a psycho killer?"
Alex looked over at Connor, raising an eyebrow at him. "Excuse me?"
"Ryan told me that if I want his number, I have to convince you to give it to me, which means convincing you I am not a pyscho. How do I convince you?"
"Why do you want it?" Alex countered.
"I... I like him," Connor said. "I mean yeah, there wasn't a lot of deep conversation, but... I think I may want deep conversation with him. And the sex was..."
"He's been burned. A lot," Alex said. "And when he says Summer will castrate you and I'll help? It's not a joke. Summer almost got arrested for trying to run down one of Ryan's abusive exes with her car. She will hurt you if you hurt him. Normal break up, fine. But if you're an ass? Or even worse if you're verbally or physically abusive? Summer may kill you, and I will help her dispose of your corpse."
"Got it," Connor said. "I don't plan on doing any of those things, but pro tip? Even if you burn my corpse to mostly ashes? Don't dump it in a dumpster. Middle of the desert, or over the side of a boat into the bay... much better options so it's not found."
"Should I be worried you know that?" Alex asked, even as she grabbed paper to write down Ryan's number.
"I was never charged with anything," Connor said with a smirk.
The End
As the last one I posted in this 'verse made clear, Sandy does not scare Ryan off from flirting with/dating Connor. And yes, Kirsten would kill Sandy, possibly literally, if he drove Ryan away... but hey, Connor would defend her and we know he's good at getting away with murder...
