Day Five, Gift Five! This one is set in the same universe as Scenarios Dr. Rodney McKay is teaching Physics at Berkeley, he drives students to mental breakdowns, but he's one of Ryan's favorite professors.

After Sandy was named head of the Law Department at Berkeley, the Cohens threw a Chrismukkah Party for all the department heads at the house, and Kirsten was completely horrified when she met the Head of the Physics Department, Dr. Rodney McKay, who she also knew was one of Ryan's professors.

"He's been here 5 minutes and he's insulted half the guests!" Kirsten protested after pulling Sandy into the kitchen.

"You must be talking about Dr. McKay," Ryan said as he passed through with Sophie Rose balanced on his hip. "The highest compliment you can hope to get from him is 'not a complete idiot'," he added.

"That man should not be allowed other human beings!" Kirsten said.

"He's not that bad," Ryan insisted. "His classes are actually interesting, instead of using outdated Science to further personal beliefs, he uses cutting edge discovers to try to find the correct track."

"He makes Ry think," Sophie Rose piped up from where her head rested on her brother's shoulder. "And the pictures are pretty."

"Soph was flipping through one of the books Dr. McKay gave me to read," Ryan said.

"He's insane!"

"I see I've already made an impression," McKay said from the doorway. "I was looking for more ice," he added.

"I like the wormy-hole pictures," Sophie Rose told him.

"She's been flipping through the book you gave me on Theoretical Wormhole Physics," Ryan said.

"But how'd dey know when to open and when to close?" Sophie Rose asked.

"No one's entirely sure," McKay said. "There's theory that people could learn how to do it themselves, but humans haven't yet created the technology themselves."

"We can't do it yet, but we may be able to someday," Ryan translated for his sister.

"Oh," Sophie Rose said, nodding. After a moment, she spotted Flapjacks hopping around the back door, and she wiggled to get put down, then ran over and tried to tug open the door to let the rabbit in.

"No, Soph, 'Jacks needs to stay outside,"" Ryan said. "If he come sin, he could get stepped on."

"But he wants in!" Sophie Rose protested.

"If he comes in, what do you think will happen when he goes into the living room?" Ryan asked. "All those women in high heels? Remember when Aunt Julie came for my birthday?"

Sophie Rose nodded. "She stepped on him."

"Right, and there's a lot more ladies in there with heels on."

"I think 'ladies' may be stretching a bit," McKay put in, making Sophie Rose giggle and Kirsten cover her mouth with her hand to hide her smile.

"That may be, but my concern isn't with them, it's with keeping my rabbit from getting hurt."

"Your rabbit?" McKay asked, mildly horrified that his star student had a... "Pet rabbit?"

"Yes, I have a pet rabbit, accept it and move on, Dr. McKay."

"'Jacks peed in Taywhore's shoes," Sophie Rose said, beaming.

Ryan's jaw dropped at the nickname that came out of his baby sister's mouth. "Excuse me, I have to go kill my soon to be sister-in-law for teaching my baby sister to say that," he said, getting up. "Leave 'Jacks outside, Soph," he added as he walked out, leaving everyone else behind.

"Well, this is awkward," McKay said.

"You wanna meet 'Jacks?" Sophie Rose asked as she moved to stand in front of the physicist. "He's really smart, just like Ry."

McKay hesitated, then nodded. "Why not?" he said, letting the little girl take his hand, and opening the back door to step outside with her, leaving the still stunned and confused Cohens behind.
