Title: At First Glance (Snapshots One)
Author: Mara
Fandoms: The OC/One Tree Hill
Prompt: #001 - Beginnings
Rating: PG
Warnings: Crossover.
Summary: Ryan meets a girl...
Notes: First the 'Snapshots Series'. I'm still not officially accepted into crossovers100, but whatever. They use like the same exact table as fanfic100, so it's not unique and I'm doing it unofficially... lol
At First Glance
Ryan was finishing up his work out, taking out his anger at his brother, Seth, by beating a punching bag at the gym into next week, when she moved into his line of sight, wearing gloves and ineffectually hitting the next bag over. Ryan stopped what he was doing to watch her, seeing the intense concentration, anger, and tension in her entire body. "You know, that might be an effective technique, they'll be too busy laughing to mug you," he pointed out, smiling as she whirled around to glare at him.
"Go to hell."
"I'm just saying, that's not the kind of technique they teach..."
The girl sighed, trying to shove a stray strand of hair out of her eyes, but it kept slipping off her gloved hand. "Fuck," she muttered before looking at him again. "Do you mind?" she asked, gesturing at the hair.
Ryan reached out and gently tucked the strand behind her ear before pulling his hand back. "There," he said.
"Thank you," she replied. "Now, do you mind?" she asked with more irritation as she turned back to the bag, hitting it harder this time, but still not doing much.
"It's your stance," Ryan offered, demonstrating. "You got turn more sideways and pull the arm you're gonna punch with back."
"I don't need help!" she snapped. But after a moment of glaring, she shifted the way he'd suggested, and her next punch was actually hard enough to do some damage. "Happy?"
"You might actually manage to do some damage now," Ryan said, nodding.
"Good, now maybe I should visit my ex-boyfriend and my lying skank whore slut ex-best friend!" the girl said, slamming her fist into the bag even harder. "And their perfect apartment in perfect Charlotte!"
"So basically... they're perfect?" Ryan asked, not sure why he was still standing there, trying to engage the angry girl in conversation.
She glared at him again, then slowly a smile formed and she started laughing. "Yeah, completely," she said, nodding. "Perfect Lucas Scott and Perfect Peyton Sawyer, who are so perfect that they hooked up while he was still dating me and she was still my best friend."
"My brother cheated on his girlfriend, who's a good friend of mine, with my girlfriend," Ryan said. "So I get it."
"I'm Brooke."
"Ryan," he replied, smiling. "So, I take it your not from California?"
"What gave me away? The lack of tan? The non-blondeness?"
"Well, the shirt that says 'Tree Hill Ravens of Tree Hill, North Carolina' was a big clue."
"Right," Brooke said, looking down at her shirt. "My old high school."
"Let me guess, most popular girl there, huh?" Ryan asked as he started unwrapping his hands.
"Head Cheerleader and Class President," Brooke said, smiling. "What about you? Jock?"
"Played soccer my sophmore year, but... I was more the token bad boy of The Harbor School," Ryan replied. "It was a private school, and I was the car stealing foster son of one of Newport Beach's most prominent families."
"Ooh... I'm interested already," Brooke said.
"You wanna... go get some coffee or something? After your workout, I mean..."
"I think I can afford to miss a day," Brooke replied. "If I can get these things off," she added, looking at the gloves.
Ryan laughed and started opening the gloves for her. "They are a hassle," he said.
"Why weren't you wearing any?"
"I prefer mostly bare knuckles," Ryan said. "I wrap my knuckles to protect them, but... you have more control. More sense of it actually being you doing the hitting."
"Maybe I should try it that way," Brooke said.
"I could teach you," Ryan offered.
"I'd like that."
The End
As I said above, this is the first in the 'Snapshots Series'. Basically, it'll be little moments in Ryan and Brooke's lives together.
