Never Again: Chapter Two
Ryan's gaze slid from Seth to the one photo he had of the Cohens, the one that had become the Chrismukkah Card Ryan's first year with the family.
"Ryan?" Seth said.
"What's wrong with him?" Ryan asked in a slight daze. Then, he shook his head. "Why are you telling me this?" he said.
"Because you need to go see him," Seth said.
"Why?" Ryan asked. "Why would I want to see him?"
"Because he's dad, and he needs to see you, and..."
"And I have a life, Seth, and it doesn't involve him or Newport, or any of the shit that went down before I left."
"Before you abandoned our family, you mean?" Seth snapped.
"Ry?" Brooke questioned from the couch.
"It's okay, babe," Ryan called over his shoulder, shoving Seth back a step. "Just go away. I have no interest in seeing him." With that, he slammed the door shut and leaned his head against it, willing himself not to cry. It would scare Brooke and he didn't want to do that.
"What's wrong?" Brooke asked, coming up behind him and putting her hands on his back.
"Nothing," Ryan lied. "Just... not so good memories."
"Come on, let's watch a movie and forget those, okay?" Brooke suggested, gently pulling him towards the couch.
"Yeah, okay," Ryan agreed.
Ryan had been on his own for a couple months when he met Brooke. He was on the beach, trying to get back in the habit of jogging after not for so long thanks to his injuries from the 'fall' through the glass door, and suddenly there was a beautiful girl jogging alongside him.
She flashed him a smile and sped up, which Ryan took as a challenge, forcing himself to keep up with her. After a couple of miles, she slowed to a stop and bent over with her hands on her knees, panting slightly.
"I like a guy who tries to keep up," she teased.
"I like a girl who offers a challenge," Ryan replied automatically.
"I'm Brooke."
"Ryan."
"You wanna get coffee, or tea, or whatever? My treat?"
"Sounds nice," Ryan said, nodding.
"So, there was a reason I made sure we both had today off," Brooke said softly after the movie had ended.
"It have anything to do with you not having coffee this morning?" Ryan asked, smiling softly.
"Maybe."
"Brooke, are you... are we...?"
"We don't even have the room," Brooke whispered. "But yeah. I'm gonna be a mommy and you're going to be a daddy."
Ryan smiled and moved one hand to rest on her smooth stomach. "We'll figure it out," he said.
"So, you're happy?"
"Yeah, I'm happy," Ryan replied. "I've got you, and I've got our baby. You're all I need."
Brooke turned, snuggling closer to him. "I love you," she whispered.
"Love you, too," Ryan replied. "I'm thinking the crib can go between our bed and the wall that shares with the livingroom," he continued softly. "So that the baby will be right there next to us. At least for a little while. And we can work on saving whatever money we can, so we can get a bigger place, two bedroom."
"You're gonna be a good dad," Brooke said.
"You're gonna be a good mom," Ryan replied. "And our kid is gonna be amazing."
"We'll never tell our son or daughter that they have to be perfect for us to love them," Brooke said. "And we'll never hurt them."
"If I ever start drinking, if I ever raise a hand to either you or our kid..." Ryan began.
"I promise," Brooke said, not needing him to finish. "But I know I won't ever have to follow through."
"It was Seth... at the door," Ryan said quietly. "He said... he said Sandy's dying."
"I'm sorry, baby," Brooke said, laying her head on his chest while he combed his fingers through he hair. "I know you still love him, no matter what he did."
"He was the first person who ever had faith in me," Ryan said. "I know he'd not the only one anymore, but... he was the first."
"You wanna go see him?"
Ryan sighed. "I really have no idea," he admitted.

And of course Seth would say the exact wrong thing to Ryan. I wonder if Sandy's bothered to fess up to Seth and Kristen, or has been letting them accuse Ryan of being the bad guy all this time. Looking at Seth's comments, I'm guessing it's the later.
Thanks for the update! I really like this one.

And then, totally enjoyed this part with a little flash, though I'm not sure if I understood it clearly? Was it Sandy who pushed Ryan through the glass window?
Hope you post more (about all of your stories) soon.
