12 Gifts Of 2018 - Never Stop (Ryan/Brooke, Ryan Bullit!Verse)
Gift #9 is here!
"It's not too late to back out," John Ross murmured as he stood beside Ryan at the altar.
"Shut up, John Ross," Ryan replied with a sigh, pretending to be annoyed rather than amused by his best man's attempts to calm his nerves.
"Think of all the girls who used to throw themselves at our feet... think of what you're depriving them of," John Ross continued, grinning.
"I'm sure you can sacrifice and console them," Ryan countered, fighting his grinned.
"Hey, yeah, more for me... definitely do this."
"You are such an ass," Ryan said.
The song Brooke had chosen for the processional began, and John Ross quieted, putting his hand on Ryan's shoulder and giving it a squeeze. "You two are gonna be one of those obnoxious old and gray couples someday, I know it," John Ross said quietly.
Ryan smiled and reached up to briefly clasp John Ross' hand in thanks before focusing on the processional. They had gone with only one set of groomsman and bridesmaid to walk down the aisle ahead of Brooke, with Haley, as Matron of Honor, following behind to make sure Brooke's train stayed straight. Even the other Bullit Boys were unable to deny that having the one of them with a healthy, happy, marriage get the honor along with his wife, was the best thing. When Hanoi and Katie made it to the front, Hanoi gave Ryan a tight hug, and Katie gave him a kiss on the cheek before they each moved to their place. Then, Brooke appeared in the dooorway, her arm linked with the Bullit's, and Ryan felt his breath catch in his chest.
Bullit was beaming with pride as he led Brooke down the aisle, the second of his daughter-in-laws he had done that for, and as they got closer, Ryan saw the tears in Bullit's eyes. When they reached the front, Bullit gave Brooke a kiss on the forehead, then turned to give Ryan a hug and took a seat in the front row as Brooke moved to stand beside Ryan, Haley settling her train before moving into the Matron of Honor spot with a smile for Ryan.
"Ryan and Brooke have opted to write their own vows," the minister said as the two turned to face each other. "Ryan?"
"I promise, I will always love you and respect you. I will always let you fight your own battles, but I will be right there at your back if you need me. When we have kids, either by blood or adoption, I will love them all the same, and I will always try to be the kind of father my Dad is to me, no matter what happens, our children will know they're loved. I know that whatever happens next in my life, and in our life together, I'll be okay, because I have you."
Brooke lifted one of her hands to wipe away a tear. "I promise, I will always love and respect you. I will fight your battles for you because I know you hate confrontation and I refuse to let you settle to keep the peace. However we have children, I try my best to be a better mom than either of us I had, and I know you will be an amazing dad, because you love with your whole heart, no matter what. And we'll always find our away, as long as we're together."
"The rings," the minister said. "Do, Brooke, take this man, Ryan, to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
"I do."
"And do you, Ryan, take Brooke to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do," Ryan replied.
"Then by the power invested in me by the great state of Texas, I know pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride."
The kiss was gentle and soft, and when it ended they stood their smiling for a moment before turning to face their guests. "Now let's party!" Brooke yelled, much to the enjoyment of the crowd.
