24 Gifts Of 2010 - Day Eleven - Ryan Meets Lane (The OC/Gilmore Girls, Ryan/Jess Slash)
I've had this half written for a while... just another little snippet from the Ryan/Jess (The OC/Gilmore Girls) slash universe, this time Ryan meets Lane, Rory's best friend.
"Oh good, Jess is back," a voice said, and Jess looked up from his laptop to see Lane coming in with a stroller.
"Long time no see," he replied. "You really decided to breed with that idiot you were dating?" he asked with a glance at the twins.
"You're doing it again," Ryan said, kicking Jess' shin even as he kept reading his text book.
"Seriously, stop kicking me," Jess replied.
"Stop being a jerk," Ryan countered, looking up.
"Help, my boyfriend's abusing me," Jess said dry, seeing the way Lane's eyes widened slightly. "Yes, I'm dating a guy. Comments?"
Lane was quiet for a moment, then glanced at Ryan. "Domestic violence is never cool," she finally said. "But Jess does need a good kick in the ass sometimes," she added.
"Sometimes?" Luke commented as he refilled Ryan's coffee.
"Didn't you say you were cutting him off from regular coffee like three hours ago?" Jess asked.
"He's somehow kept you from causing havok, he deserves real coffee," Luke countered before nodding hello to Lane and heading to refill other cups.
"Ryan Atwood," Ryan introduced himself.
"Lane Kim-Van Gerbig," Lane replied, shaking his hand. "These are Kwan and Steve."
"Kwan and Steve?" Jess questioned. "Do you hate them?"
"I will hurt you," Ryan said to his boyfriend before leaning down to greet the babies. "Hi, fellas," he said, smiling.
"There is something so wrong about Jess dating a guy who likes kids," Lane said.
"Ryan loves kids," Jess replied, smiling. "He's great with his brother and sister."
"Are you mocking me?" Ryan asked, amused. "Because I could tell them all about you and Soph..."
"Wouldn't dream of mocking you," Jess said with a smirk.
"Sure," Ryan said.
"How'd you and Jess meet?"
"Class," they said at once.
"And now the truth?" Lane countered.
"Frat party," Jess said, shrugging. "We both had really obnoxious roommates at NYU who thought we both needed to loosen up and party."
"Mine couldn't seem to grasp the concept that if physics is 'so incredibly hard', then I probably need to study a lot," Ryan said.
"Physics?" Lane asked. "Jess is dating a future physicist?"
Jess snorted, and Ryan kicked his shin. "Architect," Ryan corrected. "But physics is a requirement."
"And he's acing it, along with his other classes," Jess added, a fond smile on his lips.
"That is creepy," Lane said, pointing at Jess' smile, which was immediately replaced with a scowl. "There we go, that's the Jess we all know and love to hate," she continued, grinning.
"You people in this little slice of my personal hell are gonna make him think I'm a complete asshole... ow! Why'd you kick me?!" he concluded, glaring at Ryan.
"Babies? Right there? I doubt Lane here, or what I assume is her husband based on the ring, would appreciate them picking up that language so early," Ryan replied. "I definitely know Frank and Dawn didn't like getting called by the principal when I started repeating their insults to my kindergarten teacher."
"I'll bet you were just adorable calling your teacher bad names," Jess mocked.
"She didn't think so," Ryan said. "But then again, she'd also been my brother Trey's teacher, and I wasn't half as foulmouthed as Trey was, so..."
"Okay, I think I can tell what Jess sees in you, Ryan," Lane said. "The question is..."
"I have no idea," Ryan said, laughing as Jess tried to look offended, but ruined it be grinning. "He's too brutally honest to lie to me or cheat on me, so that gave him serious points on most of my exes."
"That's kinda sad," Lane said.
"You're telling me," Ryan said.
