Fic: Woke Up With This Feeling (The OC/Gilmore Girls, Ryan/Jess)
Title: Woke Up With This Feeling
Author:
missmara
Fandoms: The OC/Gilmore Girls
Pairings: Ryan Atwood/Jess Mariano
Rating: PG-15
Warnings: Slash. Suggestion of sex. Some mushy-ness.
Summary: Ryan took Jess home to Newport to meet the Cohens, and Sophie Rose's innocent comment leads to a big moment for the boys.
Notes: This may not include Jess' first meeting with the Cohens, but... it's cuteness... And it includes Jess reading to Sophie Rose! lol Title is from the song 'I Think I Love You' by Less Than Jake.
Woke Up With This Feeling
"And They lived happily ever after, hopping through the garden," Jess concluded as Sophie Rose sighed contentedly and snuggled closer against his side, alreayd half asleep and drifting the rest of the way pretty quick. Jess smiled softly at her, then looked up and scowled as he saw Ryan watching from the doorway. "Don't start thinking I'm a nice guy," he warned his boyfriend.
"Wouldn't dream of it," Ryan replied, walking over and sitting down on Jess' other side. He put one arm across the back of the couch, resting it against Jess's shoulders, and used his other hand to comb through Sophie Rose's soft curls. "But Soph doesn't like nice guys, she likes guys who get into fights and get kicked out of school," he continued. "That's why I'm her favorite brother."
"And Seth is a doofus," Jess replied, lightly elbowing Ryan in the side.
"That too," Ryan admitted. "God, when she starts dating I am moving back to California so I can threaten the guys she's dating."
"I'll be right there with you," Jess said, seeing the surprised and delighted look in Ryan's eyes at his words. "Not even remotely temporary or casual, remember?" he asked, looking over at his boyfriend.
"Right," Ryan agreed, smiling and kissing Jess lightly on the lips.
~~~
Neither boy noticed Sandy and Kirsten watching from behind them, taking in the whole scene with smiles on their faces.
"I think we have a winner," Sandy said softly as they treated into the kitchen. "Ryan finally found someone who's not making him disposable."
"And he's passed both the Nana and the Sophie Rose tests," Kirsten added, smiling. "If he can survive them, he's a keeper."
"Good to know you approve," Ryan said as he walked in. "Jess is sort of pinned under Soph and everytime I try to pick her up she whimpers and holds on tighter," he added. "I don't have the heart to pull her off, but she's about to leave bruises if we don't detach her soon."
"I knew we shouldn't have let her watch that thing on Octopi," Sandy said as they all went back to the couch and saw Jess had managed to pry one of her little hands off his shirt but couldn't get the other one.
"Help?" he asked, amused.
Sandy quickly went over to get his daughter, ignoring her pout as she woke. "Time for bed, Sophie," he said.
"But..."
"Ryan and Jess are staying a whole week, they'll still be here tomorrow," Sandy promised.
Sophie Rose continued to pout, but sleepily waved goodnight. "Love you, Ry and Jess," she said as she sleepily laid her head on her dad's shoulder to be carried upstairs.
Ryan smiled at the dumbfounded look on Jess' face, then up at Kirsten when she cleared her throat. "Yeah?"
"We got the guest room ready, but... if you both prefer the pool house, that's fine. Either way, doors are to be closed and locked if anything... adult is going on," Kirsten said.
"Got it," Ryan agreed, blushing.
"We'll see you boys in the morning," Kirsten added, kissing Ryan's cheek, then bending and surprising Jess with one on his cheek. "Good night."
"I think I like your family," Jess said as Ryan grabbed his bag and tossed Jess' to him.
"Pool house?" Ryan asked.
"What do you think?" Jess replied, getting up to follow him. As they stepped into the pool house, he let out a low whistle. "This place is as big as our apartment," he said.
"I know," Ryan agreed. "It's almost as big as the house I lived in with Dawn and AJ in Chino."
"Is the bed as comfortable as it looks?" Jess asked, dropping his bag on a chair.
"Very," Ryan agreed, dropping his own bag and locking the door before going to kiss Jess. "So... you like them?"
"Yeah," Jess agreed.
"Good, because they think you're a keeper, since you passed the Nana and the Sophie Rose tests with flying colors," Ryan said. "Soph doesn't like anyone or anything that takes attention away from her. But she adores you."
"Well, that proves she's kinda crazy," Jess said, pulling Ryan towards the bed. "Come on, I'm tired and it'll only get weirder tomorrow, I'm betting."
"I'm not losing another bet by making that one," Ryan said, laughing.
~~~
Jess liked waking up to the feel of Ryan's hand on his lower back, just resting there as they both slept. He could never figure out, though, whether it was meant protectively, maybe posessively towards Jess, or if it was meant to reassure Ryan himself that Jess was still there. Most of the time, Jess figured it was a little of each, and he just enjoyed the sense of not being alone.
"Morning," he said when he sat up and Ryan stirred. When the only response he got was so muffled he couldn't make out the words, he smiled and leaned over his boyfriend, running his fingers up and down Ryan's spine a few times. "Wake up so I can get breakfast without feeling like an intruder."
"Very literal open door policy," Ryan mumbled, turning to face Jess this time. "People wander in all the time, they won't notice."
Jess snorted. "Ry..."
"Seriously, I think a homeless guy walked in once, and they just fed, clothed, and housed him for the next 3 and a half years," Ryan continued, moving closer and placing a soft kiss on Jess' forearm. "Go on in, it's fine, I swear. And I need more sleep before facing the Cooper women."
"Should I be afraid?" Jess asked.
"Very," Ryan agreed, smiling as he felt Jess kiss the back of his neck. "I thought you were hungry?"
"You just want me to leave you alone to sleep," Jess accused him with a smirk.
"I love our bed, but I miss my bed," Ryan admitted.
"Alright, I'll go in," Jess said, kissing him one more time. "Don't sleep too much longer or I'll get Soph to jump up and down on the bed to wake you up," he threatened.
"She would, too," Ryan muttered.
"Yeah, cause she likes me," Jess said, getting up.
"She loves you," Ryan replied with a smile. "So do I."
Jess smiled, then couldn't help getting back into bed and moving to stretch out beside Ryan, one hand on his boyfriend's lower back. "Breakfast can wait, sleep sounds good," he said as he settled in. "Love you, too," he added after a moment, smiling again as Ryan let out a soft sigh. Maybe the words weren't so hard to say afterall.
The End
Oh... and thanks to an art I made during my 'fanart spam' period, then promptly completely forgot about, this universe now had a title: 'Inside Out/Upside Down'

Also? I'm actually sort of working on a Ryan/Jess Fanmix of songs I listen to while writing this universe because they kinda make me think of them... I have this cover for the mix that I made and I really love, so I'm gonna share it...

Although I will say the title of the mix, 'hardtobreathe' has nothing to do with the Maroon 5 song 'Harder To Breathe'. It actually refers, in my mind at least, to the two of them as they realize they are falling in love. It's new and weird and it's kind of hard to breathe when they think of it. And again when one of them gets hurt, it's hard for the other to breathe until they wake up and their okay.
And if anyone's wondering? The pic for the mix cover is actually a cropped pic of Van Hansis and Jake Silberman (Luke and Noah on 'As The World Turns') because the basic poses the boys are in makes me think of Jess and Ryan... lol...
