Untitled Ryan/Jess Oneshot (SLASH)
My second attempt (first was Sheppard/McKay for my pinch hit for last year's Apocalyptothon) at writing slash. It's incredibly tame, the boys don't even touch except for Ryan's hand on Jess' leg in a reassuring gesture... lol... but still, it's slash.
I tried to keep in character for both of them, or at least as in character as they can be when the characters are straight in canon... lol...
This COULD develop into something longer if people like it, but it'll probably never get past like PG-13 for content (R for language is possible, though... Ryan and Jess both tend to end up swearing a lot when I write them... lol), so nothing graphic.
The OC is canon up until the first couple episodes of Season 4 (M's death, the cage fighting, and going after Volchak in Mexico are all mentioned), but goes AU before the Ryan/Taylor hookup, which never happened in this universe.
Gilmore Girls is canon until after the whole Jess asking Rory to run off with him thing in Season 4. Jess mentioned Rory's 'ass boyfriend', but I haven't decided if he means Dean or Logan, so the Season 6 appearance by Jess may have happened, although if it did then without Jess having any romantic feelings for Rory anymore.
Anyway... on to the slashy oneshot... that could become more... lol
Jess tapped his fingers against the steering wheel as he drove towards Stars Hollow, wondering if it was too late to turn around and go back to New York, where at least he wasn't universally despised by the entire town.
"If you don't stop that, I'm kicking your ass," Ryan muttered from the passenger seat.
"I just don't want you being surprised by how hated I am."
"Trust me, I completely understand why you are," Ryan said dryly, though he smiled to soften his words. "I was hated in Newport for years, and I did worse than steal a garden gnome. I'm not gonna suddenly be disgusted with you, Jess. You've told me all your past misdeeds, and there's nothing anyone can tell me that'll make me change my mind about you."
"Did I tell you about wrecking the truck of the town princess that everyone loves and breaking her arm?" Jess asked.
"Yes, and I told you about wrecking my truck and killing my high school sweetheart," Ryan replied. "Face it, Jess, you're stuck with me. And if you can put up with Che's animal guide crap and Kaitlin's extremely inapropriate questions about our sex life, I can handle anything anyone here throws my way."
Jess glanced over and smiled at Ryan, before returning his attention to the road as they finally entered the town. "As far as I know, only Luke knows about the whole me being Bi and dating a guy thing. He might have told his girlfriend, but... I doubt it. He's not a sharing kinda guy."
Ryan snorted. "You are seriously nervous about this," he said, amused.
"Taylor will probably say something close minded, and god... I hope Rory isn't in town because she'll freak out... god knows what her ass boyfriend will do. And Lorelai... she'll probably be as bad as Kaitlin with the inapropriate questions."
Ryan shook his head. "You put up with The Nana interrogating you about your intentions, you can handle these people."
Jess paused, then nodded. "You're right. Your Nana is way scarier than these idiots," he agreed, shuddering as he remember the barrage of questions.
Ryan grinned. "Come on, let's get to your uncle's, I'm dying for some coffee."
"He'll probably mutter about how unhealthy it is," Jess warned. "He always does with Lorelai and Rory, and he knows how I lo... he knows we're serious so he'll probably do it to you."
Ryan smiled again, catching the words Jess was as bad as him about not saying, and reached over to rest his hand on Jess' leg. "I can handle it," he said. "I'll argue with him about it, then compromise on one cup of regular and then decaf after that."
"And then get me to sneak you regular as often as possible, right?"
"Exactly."
Jess pulled the truck over in front of the diner and leaned back in his seat after turning off the engine. "Luke's cool with the dating a guy thing," he said, repeating himself. "He was surprised when I told him, and I'm not sure he entirely believed me, but I really doubt he's going to freak out when he sees it's true."
"Then stop worrying that he will," Ryan said gently. "Anyone who does... it's their loss. Isn't that what you told me after both Dawn and Frank told me not to contact them until I 'stopped being a fag'?"
"Right," Jess said. "Come on, let's get this over with."
"Gee, thanks for the enthusiasm for intrducing me to your family," Ryan said, rolling his eyes.
"They'll like you," Jess said confidently. "Let's just... leave out the car stealing and arson and trying to kill a guy in Mexico stuff until after they like you."
"Sounds like a plan," Ryan agreed as they got out of the truck.
"And I think maybe we should stick to the version of how we met that we told The Nana. Leave out the 'drunken one night stand at a frat party' part and stick with 'we have classes together' part."
"Another good idea," Ryan said, nodding. "And if you mention animal guides your a dead man," he added, causing Jess to burst out laughing.

I could so be tempted to write about Jess meeting Ryan's extended non-related family... if anyone's interested... and of course I could be convinced to write the reactions of Stars Hollow to this news... lol...
