As far as I know, yeah, you do still need physical rehab and continued physical therapy to keep the muscles from full atrophying (sp?), which can lead (as I understand it) to other serious problems. Please, the initial physical rehab also teaches you how to get around in the wheelchair, how to take care of yourself instead of being totally dependant on others.
